PURPOSE: Tests provide an introduction to the discipline of Western Dressage; the horse performs only at the walk and jog. The rider should demonstrate correct basic position, use of basic aids, and understanding of the figures. The horse should show relaxation; harmony between horse and rider is important. The horse accepts the aids and influence of the rider. The jog should be a natural gait within the horse's scope and should demonstrate a swinging back.JUDGEIda NorrisLink:

Enter working jog, proceed down center line without halting

Track left, working jog
Straightness; regularity and quality of the jog; balance and bend in the turn.77fairly straight but needs more energy / balanced on 4 hand
13
2E - B

B
Half circle left 20m, working jog

Proceed straight ahead, working jog
Balance and inside bend on the half circle; straightness; regularity and quality of the jog.6.56.5very slow :inactive : shorty tracking
14
3Between M & CDevelop working walkWilling, smooth transition; balance and bend in the corners; regularity and quality of the walk.6.56.5needs more balance and march in the trans and thru corner
15

Change rein, free walk

Working walk
Horse willing to freely stretch the neck forward and down; relaxation; swing through the back; ground cover; willing, smooth transition; regularity and quality of the walks.5.5211only tracks up, did not stretch, poll never below withers
16
5FHalt 4 seconds. Proceed working walkBalance in transition to square, straight halt; immobility; willing, smooth transition; regularity and quality of the walk; balance and bend in the corner.6.5213quiet but not square, walk after the halt needs energy
17
6Between A & KDevelop working jogWilling, smooth transition; straightness; regularity and quality of the jog5.55.5clearly behind the leg, many kicks to get started , short tracking, nds impulsion to cover ground and swing thru the back ( quality of jog)

B
Half circle right 20m, working jog

Proceed straight ahead, working jog
Balance and inside bend on the half circle; straightness; regularity and quality of the jog.66very very slow and short steps, you are exhibiting "pleasure jog" but this is not "working"jog.. need impulsion
19
8Between F & ADevelop working walkWilling, smooth transition; balance and bend in the corner; regularity and quality of the walk.66very slow walk, needs energy and march tempo. looking for longer steps and softer to hand connection

B
Change rein, free walk

Working walk
Horse willing to freely stretch the neck forward and down; relaxation; swing through the back; ground cover; willing, smooth transition; regularity and quality of the walks.6212did not stretch down- poll never below withers: very slow walk and only tracks up
21
10MHalt 4 seconds
Proceed working walk
Balance in transition to square, straight halt; immobility; willing, smooth transition; regularity and quality of the walk; balance and bend in the corner.6212quiet but not square, hollow topline( i.e. neck up/back down) , walk after lacks energy

Develop working jog

Change rein, working jog
Willing, smooth transition; balance and bend in the corners; straightness; regularity and quality of the jog66jog inactive behind and appears to toe drag at times ( barely clearing ground with hind feet) , causing tracking short ( lack of impulsion and back swing) ( quality of jog)

2ImpulsionDesire to move forward with suppleness of the back and steady tempo.5.55.5back suppleness, impulsion, energy for free flowing performance today
29
3Rider’s Position, Seat, and HandsWell-balanced elastic seat demonstrating vertical, centered alignment, with light independent contact from hand(s)6.56.5slight chair seat, needs leg down and back more under seat for correct leg position to encourage working gaits.
30
4Rider’s Correct and Effective Use of the AidsEvidenced by the horse's responsiveness; steady elastic connection cultivating athletic expression. Accuracy - precise placement of the figures and transitions, the effectiveness of the rider's aids determines the accurate fulfillment of the required movements of the tests66I appreciate this riders quietness but need to ask horse to be active for working gaits and show more energy. working jog gets you from ranch to ranch - it is not a pleasure jog. it must cover ground.
31
5HarmonyThe horse accepts the aids and influence of the rider with attention, relaxation and confidence; and demonstrates a willing partnership between horse and rider resulting in a free flowing performance6.5213this appears to be a very willing horse but did not exhibit a free flowing performance today due to lack of forward energy. Impulsion improves ground cover , connection, balance and bend
32
this is a gorgeous horse and I liked this riders quietness! Now work to get the correct working jog to improve the free flowing performance. use energy in the walk and impulsion in the jog to get this horse in a more correct balance .. must use the hocks more and carry his weight forward to come into balance and connection. You can do this.. Lots of potential! Keep going.. you have the correct idea on the accuracy of the geometry!
