It is modified and adapted based on Feldman (2017) Meta-Analysis Excel Template for experimental studies, Feldman (2019) Meta-Analysis Excel Template for correlational studies, Yeung, Yay, and Feldman (2021) Omission Bias Meta-Analysis and Fillon, Kutscher, and Feldman (2020) Exceptionality Effect Meta-Analysis. This is suitable for meta-analysis of experimental studies in psychology. For the corresponding RMarkdown file "Phenomenon-name-meta-analysis-template-OSF.rmd"
LEGEND: (Only applicable for Stage 1 simulation) ORANGE: Type [Insert XX by Stage 2] or leave it blank, as those fields are unnecessary for simulation in Stage 1 RED: You may manually enter those fields, or randomize, but if you do randomize, be careful of the relationships between those fields, check Coding and sim instructions for details. BLUE: Age, Gender % / number, Descriptive data (M, SD, Count, Proportion) and Moderator, feel free to randomize. YELLOW: Calculation-related fields and inferential statistics. Please enter manually. Those are based on descriptives. Check Coding and sim instructions for details.
Instructions of data simulation: 1) Randomization: For numbers, use RANDBETWEEN(bottom, top), e.g. RANDBETWEEN(1,100) for age. For data with two decimal places (such as M and SD), use RANDBETWEEN(100,700)/100 for 7-point scale, or RANDBETWEEN(1000,10000)/100 for 100-point scale. For texts (e.g. 4 categories - Students, Working, General population, Others), use CHOOSE(RANDBETWEEN(1,4),"Students","Working","General population","Other"). Remember to click ctrl+C -> shift+F10 -> V to prevent the randomized numbers from repeatedly changing. 2) Do not randomize all cells, especially cells that are dependent on other cells. Notably, randomize M, SD first, but do not randomize t-statistics, F-statistics and cohen's d, given M and SD are reported. T-statistics, F-statistics and cohen's d, in most cases when M and SD are reported, are dependent on M and SD. Another notable example is that, Article is dependent on article number (e.g. in the simulated example, AuthorsA (XXXX) Joural A should always match Article number 10). 3) Even for cells that are supposed to randomized (M and SD most notably), feel free to leave some blanks. The purpose is to test if the codes can be ran given some (non-compulsory) missing data, given other essential statistics are included. An example is that, if M and SD are blanks, but F-statistics is provided, the analysis can still be ran. 4) For Stage 1 Registered Report submission, for columns such as "Notes", "Country", "DV title", feel free to leave blank or type "To be explained/entered by Stage 2". Those columns do not have be entered for simulation.
