Bubic has ascended into stardom and Cameron has been such a pleasant surprise. Lugo is quietly having another great year, despite not getting the level of recognition that he did last season. Wacha has also been solid. Lorenzen obviously has been a bit all over the place but as a fifth starter in the rotation he’s been fine. 2If I were being purely objective, I would probably give them a ‘1’ but there have been some encouraging signs lately that there may be some life in this lineup. The front half of the order has for the most part picked up where they left off last season. There was a lot made of Bobby and his slow start but he’s picked it up as of late and is now hitting nearly .300 with an .850 OPS. Vinny has pretty much returned to where he was at pre-injury last year. Salvy has been hot of late. India had a disastrous start but lately has been a really solid lead off guy. And then there’s Maikel, who has tapered off just a bit the past few weeks, but nonetheless is putting together a great breakout campaign. Because the top half of the order has been generally pretty solid I can’t give them the lowest score in this situation. That said, the back half has been truly dreadful. Everyone we have plugged in has failed to establish themself as an everyday player in MLB. Renfroe, Massey, Waters, Rave, Loftin, Tolbert, Caglianone. Pretty much every attempt to shore up the back half of this lineup has fallen flat. I don’t necessarily know if this is a player development problem as much as it is just the roster not being there. I believed it a month ago and I still believe it now that Cags should never have been called up when he was. Two months in the minor leagues is not enough runway for a guy as raw as he is. Still holding out hope that Loftin can continue developing because he’s shown some real promise as of late even if the stats don’t necessarily reflect it. 4Much better than the bullpen we had the first half of 2024 but not quite as good as the bullpen the last month of the regular season and the postseason in ‘24. I generally think Quatraro has done a good job and think he takes way too much heat online. He’s not perfect and there are occasional game management decisions that have ended up backfiring but there have been many more cases where said moves have won the team games they otherwise would have lost. I understand a team’s field manager is always gonna take a lot of criticisms but considering he turned a 56 win team into a playoff team in just one season I’ve been shocked at how little grace he’s been shown by many. 2) I thought Piccolo was a miracle worker and I still really like him, but rolling with the same outfield as last year was a catastrophic failure. The goal needs to be to drop dead weight next offseason. Cags can stay, Isbel as a backup, but the other two starters need to be new additions. I am also **extremely** skeptical that Adam Frazier will do anything good for us and think I'll be screaming at him and calling him worthless when he grounds into a crucial double play in a month or whatever but the bar is so low who knows.
3) Q needs to show emotion. I know there's a lot of people who seem to be smug about him being lifeless but it's just how it is, and I really think the team demeanor (especially the offense) reflects this. Sit there with a straight face and tell me the 2015 team would've been better if they got into less fights. We're also one of the worst teams in terms of balls/strikes called against our batters incorrectly and get fucked on replay calls all the time so it's not like being nice to umps is helping at all. He's a better manager than Matheny (who also had weird defenders for a long time) and hell all of the 2000s ones but I'm not changing my opinion on this. Kauffman fired managers all the time (including some much better ones than Q) until he finally found Howser
