VariesEnglish, Spanish, others upon requestBy Appointment Only, VirtualAppointments for FREE tax assistance for the 2020 tax year are available for Montgomery County residents ONLY, earning $57,000 or less through the Community Action Agency's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, with safe, VIRTUAL services available through April 15th, with IRS-certified preparers assisting taxpayers through Zoom. Use the “Book Now” button to schedule a virtual appointment. (In-person appointments will not be scheduled, due to Covid-19.) Note: customers with appointments will receive a call from VITA to learn about the requirements and process for their "Zoom" appointment before they meet with a preparer. We can help people with current ITINs file taxes. However, at this time we are not renewing ITINs or assisting with applications for new ITINs. County residents may also call: 240-777-1123, or they may call 3-1-1 or MD Relay (711). Requests for special accommodations must be made by calling at least three business days in advance of scheduled appointments. Starting in June, Community Action's VITA program will start making appointments to prepare amended and back year returns (tax years 2020, 2019 and 2018).

Through 5/17/2021Facilitated Self-Assistance (FSA)EnglishVirtualThe Northern Virginia CASH coalition VITA and TCE sites will change from in-person services to Facilitated Self-Assistance (FSA) services. This is similar to the traditional VITA/TCE programs but uses IRS-certified income tax preparers to assist filers in their tax return preparation. The main difference between the traditional volunteer preparation and FSA boils down to who does most of the preparation. As the name suggests, FSA puts the taxpayer in charge of their taxes by walking them through their taxes (online or by phone) with free computer tax preparation software.
