****There are a lot of brands out there seeking to greenwash consumers! (Green washing is a marketing startegy used to make products seem greener or healthier than they actually are.) It is unethical to capitalize off the good intention of consumers. Here is our attempt at weeding out legit brands from unethical ones. This spreadsheet is populated by the reviews of environmentally conscious consumers like you and me.

Humble Brushhttps://thehumble.co/find-retailers/Handle is bamboo and bristles are plastic. Although not 100% plastic free, it is super close. Ive tried other toothbrushes with non-plastic bristles and they were too soft for me. I love this one because it feels just like your conventional toothbrush but the handle is compostable! I've had it for 5 months and the bristles are JUST starting to feel a little less strong.
6
Fat and the Moon Deodoranthttps://www.fatandthemoon.com/products/deodorant-cream-2ozI absolutely love this deodorant. It works well and smells rly good. it comes in a glass jar SCORE. youre supposed to just scoop some out with your fingers and then apply on underarm but I found that a little annoying at times. I've been using one of those tiny wooden spoon to apply and it is perfect. Final con: one time I wore a skin-tight beige long sleeve top and it did stain it. havent had issues with it staining any other clothing.
7
Silk Dental Lacehttps://www.dentallace.com/collections/allNo complaints about this floss, I am a big fan! The packaging is glass and the foss itself is silk instead of plastic which means it is compostable.
8
Beeswax wraps & coconut scrubbershttps://www.shopetee.com/This brand is great, started by an outdoor enthusiast. I use these wraps all the time. Id love to try out their other products as well
9
Lush Shampoo Barhttps://www.lush.ca/en/hair/shampoo-bars/I personally use the godiva bar but it really depends on your hair type. The bars come without packaging at the store and you can take them home in a paper bag if you want and they have reusable metal tins to keep them in (use the square one so you can get the bar out easier). They typically last about 3-4 months if you let it dry before putting the lid on and they are SO easy to travel with since it isn't liquid.
10
Lush Conditioner Barhttps://www.lush.ca/en/hair/shampoo-bars/I personally use the American Cream bar and it's amazing. My hair is a lot softer than before and this bar doesn't need heat to melt so I find it works really well traveling to places that don't have hot showers. Same as the shampoo bars - it lasts a long time and you can keep it in the tin. It's so easy to travel with. *separate contributor* I have used the Jungle Pressed Conditioner Bar and I did not like it at all. The smell was too herbal and bitter for me. I will admit, it left my hair very soft, but the bar was used up in just 15 washes.
11
O Naturals Charcoal Soaphttps://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07MHP4GVS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I use this charocoal and peppermint soap as a facewash. It's vegan and lasts a really long time. The box came with 3 bars but I can't remember if it was plastic-free (in terms of plastic on the outside)
12
Lush Aromaco Deodoranthttps://www.lushusa.com/body/deodorants-and-dusting-powders/aromaco/9999900051.html
Pros: lower price, comes in zero waste packaging, made in USA, actually works for me, and has lasted me over 4 months so far. You will need to learn how to use it efficiently and store it in some sort of solid packaging if youre traveling or else pieces of it crumble off. If I'm in a hurry I'll put some water on it instead of warm it with my skin or breath.

Lunette menstrual cup
https://www.amazon.com/Lunette-Reusable-Menstrual-Cup-Vaginas/dp/B0758JQ3RJ/ref=sr_1_1?crid=30XSR6QLOWGJ2&keywords=lunette+menstrual+cup&qid=1581113015&sprefix=lunette%2Caps%2C183&sr=8-1
Bit of a learning curve but pros: no more buying tampons, you don't ever have to worry about forgetting to pack them or running out, they work for scuba diving too, no toxic shock worries
14
Bamboo Padshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EFN5YCG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Work better than disposable pads and don't feel gross. Washer and dryer safe but I rinse them out first.
15
EcoFrenzy Bamboo Toothbrush (4 pack)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DK6F63S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Lasted me a long time but I'm personally not a huge fan of the charcoal bristles
16
Dr. Boner's Castile Bar Soap Tea Tree Oil
got it at publixuse it to wash my body and face. Works fine but needed an exfoliant too
17
Davids Toothpaste $9.25 / tubehttps://davids-usa.com/
Love this toothpaste (feels and tastes just like coventional toothpaste). I feel great about the packaging which is metal aka more easily recyclable. And it has metal key to make sure you get every last drop out:) I will be buying more of this product.
18
DIY face and body scrub
I make this at home:) SO easy. I havent bought a scrub from the store since i discovered this recipe. store bought scrubs often times have microplastics in them eventhough theyve been banned in the states.
Recipe: Brew some coffee. when done, put the wet grounds in a baking tray and pop in the oven until thoroughly dry. once dry, use an upcycled container to put your dry grounds in and use in the shower!

These prodcuts are expensive! I wish their prices were more competitive compared to conventional brands. I bit the bullet and bought the face wash, face moisturizer and conditioner. the products are AWESOME. becuase of the price im not sure I can afford to get them refilled.... so Ill probably jsut keep the bottles which are fantastic and get them filled at ther zero waste store in miami thathas refill stations. If you have the budget for these products I would 100% recommend :)
22
Wet Brush Go Green Detangler
https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shop/wet-brush-go-green-detangler-brush?color=053&type=REGULAR&size=ONE%20SIZE&quantity=1
The handle of this brush is made out of plant starch, and it advertises to break down in a landfill on Urban, but when Wet Brush had their own website, these were advertised to break down in the ground--i have a broken brush so I may try to test it out for myself. However it is so far a wonderful brush--it gives you the quality of the wet brush detangler that helps my hair without the overload of plastic (even with the plastic bristles still) They originally shipped it carbon neutrally, but since offloading their website, I can't guarantee other companies will do the same
23
Krista's Natural toothpastehttps://www.kristasnaturalproducts.com/products/peppermint-toothpaste
In a glass jar with a metal lid!!! My dentist even read over the ingredients and had no concerns about it as long as I was supplementing flouride in regularly! It doesn't taste like traditional toothpaste and I've used the spearmint one, but it cleans effectively and lasted me about 4 1/2 months! only downside is it is not refillable so i have switched to a powder
24
Uncle Henry's Natural toothpaste
https://www.smallflower.com/uncle-harrys-natural-products/peppermint-toothpaste-3oz-toothpaste-10070474?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3Ob2v7jy6AIVBeXICh3riAEEEAQYCCABEgJBl_D_BwE
in a glass jar with a plastic lid, but amazing toothpaste--especially for the price. Also dentist approved with supplementing flouride! Only con is I could never find it to be shipped carbon neutrally or in zero-waste packaging
25
Chargin Valley Shampoo Barshttps://www.chagrinvalleysoapandsalve.com/products/natural-hair/natural-shampoo-bars/
I can not for the life of me find a shampoo bar that works for me --long thick hair that gets super waxy fast with every shampoo bar I have tried-- but these shampoo bars seem to have a cult like following so I tried They worked a lot more efficiently for me when I used an apple cider vinegar rinse, but being in the sun for 8 hours a day bleached my hair. Other people seem to have much better luck than me. they smelled phenonemal and they have smaller bars so you can try a bunch! Each small bar lasted me about a month. the big bar I made it half way through in about 3 months, this company also has a lot of other products--deoderants, hand soaps, scrubs, etc.
26
Little Seed Farm Deoderanthttps://littleseedfarm.com/collections/deodorant/products/deodorant-cream-3-scents
I love this deoderant! it is baking soda free and smells phenomenal. I have tried the cucumber, lavander, rosemary and grapefruit-- and I love the cucumber and grapefruit the best. They have small samples that you can buy to test it out (but they're plastic) however the full product is in a smal glass jar with metal lid and they intentionally package them to be zero waste. only cons are it is not water proof and you can't just throw it in your bag, it needs to stay indoors and out of the sun or it becomes a liquid. they also have a pretty cool sustainable mission found here: https://littleseedfarm.com/pages/our-sustainability-committment
27
Franklin and Whitman Face Care Kithttps://franklinandwhitman.com/collections/face-care-kits/products/daily-face-care-kit
I adore this natural face care line. It uses oils to clean your face and moisturize it--i can not say enough about how well it has aided in clearing my face and keeping it clean. They are all in glass bottles which you can return for a free face mask--but i have found other uses for them around my house! the spray bottle is for my succulents. They are a bit pricey but they often have 30% off sales and everything comes in biodegradable packing peanuts (such the trendy thing to do)
28
Franklin and Whitman lip balmhttps://franklinandwhitman.com/collections/lip-balms/products/mount-airy-lip-balmlove this lip balm! it comes in a small metal container and I often add it onto my skin care orders so they all ship together!
29
BKIND Shampoo and Conditioner Bars
https://bkind.com/collections/haircare/products/package-free-shampoo-bar-moisture-and-softness (but I got mine on Causebox's Market)
The shampoo bar works great! It's very sudsy and doesn't leave a chalky texture in my hair. This is the best conditioner bar I've found so far! It does a greta job moisturizing, and the bar doesn't disappear as fast as Lush's conditioner bar. Both products smell great, but they are a little small for the price. If these were cheaper, I would consider using them indefinitely
30
Wowe Silk Flosshttps://wowelifestyle.com/products/silk-floss-with-jar
This floss is arguably even better than regular floss. I love that it has more texture to it, meaning it really cleans in between your gums. The metal jar makes it easy to just toss in your bag and it's easy to refill. It is a little expensive for floss, but they do sell the refills by themselves and the rolls last longer than I expected.
31
Wowe Bamboo Toothbrushhttps://wowelifestyle.com/collections/toothbrushes/products/natural-bamboo-toothbrush
I got one of these as a giveaway and I love it! It is a simple toothbrush, but it gets the job done. I haven't had to replace it yet, but you cna just rip the bristles out with a plier and repurpose the bamboo handle
32
Wowe Copper Tongue Cleanerhttps://wowelifestyle.com/collections/tongue-cleaners/products/pure-copper-tongue-cleaner
This is one of the coolest looking items I own. The copper color of the tongue scraper is just so nice to look at. It does a good job cleaning my tongue. It is a little odd to store though. I rest mine on a paper towel next to my sink, but I feel like there is probably a better way to store it.

35
Lunchskinshttps://www.lunchskins.com/collections/all These are awesome for packing snacks/lunch on the daily but ALSO for field days and while out on the water. They are waterproof and the velcro is super strong. I second that these are great, I have noticed some of mine do get water logged, maybe I have an older model but I still love them regardless!
36
Beeswraphttps://www.beeswrap.com/collections/allLOVE these! Great alternative to cellophane "cling wrap". From my experience, around the one year mark they get too old to use. which is what they say on the website. They sometimes dont hold as well as I would like when using to cover a bowl = for example, but they work wonders fro wrapping half used produce etc...
37
To-Go Warehttps://to-goware.com/category-bamboo-utensil-sets-247Obssessed with this bamboo cutlery set. i carry it around everywhere with me. it is in my bag at all times. it is also great while traveling/ on airplanes etc... doesnt come with a straw so I bought a metal one seperately and put it in there. Bended straws fit less well then a straight straw in this pouch. This set has saved my butt so many times while at restaurants, foodtrucks, concerts, airplanes etc..
38
Klean Kanteen Cuphttps://www.kleankanteen.com/products/stainless-steel-pint-cup-16ozTBH this cup is a must and like the to-go ware^ I always have it on me. the 16oz is perfect for coffee to go, or beers/drinks at bars. since its a standard cup size employees dont ususallt stress too much because they know what to charge you for it. I have the 16 oz one which i use the most, and a 10 oz one.
39
Produce bags for shoppinghttps://www.verdemarketonline.com/product-page/reusable-produce-bagsGAME CHANGER: i used to throw all of my produce loose in the cart but it would take forever at cash register becasue they would have to scan each one indivudallly + i would get the stank eye from cashier. anyways, now I can put all of my tomatoes in one bag for example and they can just weigh it real quick like they would with a plastic bag.
40
Wooden Dish Brushhttps://wildminimalist.com/collections/cleaning/products/wood-dish-brush10/10 would recommend this product. the bristles are super strong a sturdy. i dont ahve to get my hadns dirty when cleaning dirty dishes thanks to long handle, ANDDDD the head is replaceable. meaning that once the bristles are too old you can snap the head off and insert a new head. you'll never have to throw "away" the handle. and the heads cost like 3$

LOVE these. I havent bought a roll of paper towels in almost a year. Before, whenever i would spill coffee or wine, or wipe down surfaces i would use paper towels (i dont like using my sponge for that). Now i just use these! you can even run them in the dishwasher:)
42
Stasher bagshttps://www.stasherbag.com/
There are not enough words in the english language to explain how much I love these bags. They are sturdy and wonderful. They are water proof. you can freeze them. you can boil in them. They do it all. I use them for food. I use them to hold my cpr mask and epi pen and sunscreen and phone in my bag to make sure they remain dry in the field. I have most sizes and theyre so easy to clean and you can put them in the sun to "bleach" them and they'll remove any discoloration or smell if you forgot to clean it in a reasonable time frame! I plan on owning these bags for the rest of my life!

Stream 2 Seahttps://stream2sea.comLove their leave in conditiner, shampoo, and body wash, BUT their sunscreen stays on white and opaque. I even tried the tinted version but it still looked a little weird and it stained my bathing suits/clothing. I get why its like that, but I dont see myself purchasing it again :(
54
Sun Bum Sunscreenhttps://www.sunbum.com/pages/reef-friendlyBe careful of which product you get - they aren't all reef safe! I believe their zinc oxide minderal cream is the only reef safe one. They are working towards getting more reef safe.

Lush Mascarahttps://www.lushusa.com/makeup/eyes/eyes-right/06428.htmlComes in black plastic BUT there is a reason for that. All empty containers should be brought back to lush because they melt it down to recreate future products. The black allows them to melt more times then if it were clear plastic.

Love it! better than conventional lipbalms. packaging holds up well and is all paper/cartboard 100% biodegrdable. I have had mine for 4 months. I use it all the time and i still have more than half left.
