GENERAL THOUGHTS ABOUT SEATING CHARTS
3
Seating Charts are NOT easy to create
4
They take considerable time to construct (P usually takes at least an 1 hour per period)
5
There are many factors to consider when making a seating chart.
6
Spread out Supreme Council Members (SCM) about room (see Example Seating Chart on tab below)
7
In a typical class (35 students), each SCM will represent 5-7 citizens.
8
The SPEAKER shall have the power to decide which SCM represents which citizens
9
10
SCM GROUPS
11
Mix of Guys & Girls
12
Mix of Reliable & Less Reliable
13
Mix of High Performing & Low Performing
14
Mix of Outgoing & Shy
15
Mix of Organized & Less Organized
16
Mix of Motivated & Less Motivated
17
DO NOT STACK GROUPS or CREATE WEAK GROUPS
18
19
GROUP WORK
20
Same applies as listed above for SCM Groups (Rate each student 1-4. 1 = "A" Student, Mature, Participates, Reliable, Motivated 4 = "D/F" Student, Immature, Zone 4, Unreliable, etc)
21
Each group should have a student ranked #1 = Leader and a student ranked #4 = Zone 4 / Slacker. This will balance groups out.
22
4 people per group (unless there are certain restrictions, 3 or 5 people per group is NOT allowed)
23
If there is a group of 3, there should NOT be a #4 ranked student. All 3 in the group should be ranked 1 or 2s... maybe one ranked #3
24
Put the Group # next to student name
25
A Student can be in a group that is NOT in his SCM's district
26
27
SEATING CHART CONSIDERATIONS
28
Who needs to sit in front? Students with glasses? Hearing issues? Easily distracted? Smaller folks? Other reasons?
29
Do NOT sit a small student behind a big student
30
DO NOT sit talkative students next to other talkative students
31
DO NOT have immature friends face each other across class. Instead, sit 1 in front of row and other friend in the last seat of the same row.
32
Generally when making a new seating chart, move those with prime seats (front & center) to the side or back.
33
All students should have an opportunity to have good seats throughout the year.
34
Also, students should NOT be seated in NON-prime seating all year.
35
Have students who participate regularly in class spread out throughout the room so to make discussion happening around the room. Voices should be coming from every corner of the room, if the seating chart is arranged correctly.
