FacebookDuring a fire, closing the door could have a potentially life-saving impact. Today, there’s an average of three minutes or less to escape a home fire due to synthetic furnishings, open floor plans and lightweight construction materials that can combine to accelerate the spread of a fire.

FacebookWe are committed to providing emergency and non-emergency services to protect the lives, property and environment of a local community, but this also means knowing how to protect yourself and loved ones.

Recently, @ULfirefightersafety shared an important message about a recent fire-related emergency.

“As we were going in, the smoke was real thick… we did a left-hand search, came to kitchen area and the flames started rolling over heads. We decided to finish our search, as we’re passing (another firefighter) someone says, ‘wait, wait, wait, do you hear that?’ And that’s when you could hear her cry out for help.”

It’s not only important to #CloseBeforeYouDoze, but to have working smoke alarms on every floor of the home and to practice your exit plan. If you can't get out of the house, close the door to give your local fire department the time to get there and help.
