The AutoEssence tab contains all of the unified data from all of the various generated and manually-entered sources described below. It should not need to be edited unless the set of materials that can be made into essences changes.

On the Compounds tab [red] is where you enter litmus data for your various compound tests. When using a common base like ABCDx, ABCDy, ABCDz etc., be sure to put ABCD (the common base) into the E1-E4 columns. The E5 column is used in conjunction with the indivudal stat pages (Ar, As, Bi, etc). Use the first letter of the color of the litmus result (e.g. L for Light Blue, W for white). If there is sifficient data, on this tab you can also find +/- values for your compound to match to essence requirements and/or possible ranges for E5's stats as determined by all the available litmus data.

On the individual stat pages (Ar, As, Bi, etc.) [red] you can put in rules for common bases where you have been able to determine that a particular litmus color for that stat for the common base has an exact value. For example, if compounds ABCDe, ABCDf, ABCDg, ABCDh, ABCDi all give white for that stat and compound efghi also gives white for that stat you know that e, f, g, h, and i all have 0 for that stat even though you don't know the individual stats for A, B, C, and E; so you would enter 0 in the white column for the common base ABCD on that stat's page. From then on, any time you get white for that stat with base ABCD, E5's stat will automatically be determined to be 0. NOTE: the value(s) you enter are for E5, not ABCD (which would be the negative of E5's value)!

On the EditEssence page [yellow] is where you manually enter data. This includes temperature/spirit recipe info and values determined through means beyond what this worksheet can do automatically (e.g., it doesn't know that there is always a -1 stat). You will also want to copy automatically-derived values from the StatMerge page (see below) to the EditEsssence page to allow for possibly more values to be derived. The spreadsheet is not set up to do endless iterative recalculation.

The Solver pages [green] calculate essence stats based on min/max ranges determined by known essence values and provided litmus data. Each compound containing a given essence with litmus data provided serves to narrow the possible min/max range for the given essence's stat assuming all the other essences' values for that stat are known. When the min and max range is narrowed to a single possible value, the given essence's value for that stat is determined exactly.

The StatMerge page takes all the data from the various sources (with heading colors corresponding to source tab colors) and combines them to generate the values that populate the AutoEssence page. "New" values (i.e. determined by the spreadsheet that are not known/manually entered) are highlighted in green. Conflicts are highlighted in red (for example, if a value entered manually differs from what the spreadsheet is able to calculate).

Data from the Wiki can be pasted into the WikiEssence page for comparison to the spreadsheet. Values documented on the wiki but not verified here are highlighted in yellow. Conflicting data is highlighted in red. This basically just serves to error check others' data and to find new data to verify.

Finally there are some utilities such as a compound calculator (CompCalc), litmus color/value reference (Litmus) and spirit temperature calculator (TempCalc).
