It was built to meet the needs of the ecosystem science, tertiary education and natural resource management sectors.

There are currently about 140,000 records on plants in plots for 93,000 sites and associated environmental data (November 2014). There will be regular updates to the Portal over the coming months with offers of more vegetation databases and our first offer of fauna databases as indicated in the table.

Users can find, view, explore and download source ecological “plot” data from 1923 to present in unprecedented detail never experienced previously. You can access data by dataset or integrated across study site(s), comparing `like` with `like`. This repository emphasizes reuse of data and therefore provides rich, detailed descriptions to enable appropriate reuse. You can also view the study sites using the Map Search. The data are high quality having been quality assured using best practice to minimise misuse. It has been collected systematically by ecological researchers (government, universities) to answer scientific questions or identify environmental solutions. All sampling methods are robust plot-based such as quadrats, releves, transects, animal trapping arrays and other scientific methods. The repository does not contain data sampled haphazardly.

BioSharinghttp://biosharing.org/University of Oxford, UKBiology, Life sciences, Databases, Ontology, Classification, Data archives, Genetics, Gene expressionBioSharing is a catalog of bioscience reporting standards (minimum reporting guidelines, exchange formats and terminologies) and organizations that develop these. It also aims to link to policies, other portals, open access resources and lists of databases implementing the standards; develop and maintain a set of criteria for assessing the usability and popularity of the standards, also the interoperability and relations among them; foster interoperability, addressing overlaps and duplication of efforts that hamper their wider uptake and interfere with the creation of standards-compliant systems. California Water CyberInfrastructurehttp://bwc.berkeley.edu/California/default.htmMicrosoft Research, University of California, Berkeley Water Center Data Server, BWCThrough the Microsoft eScience Project, the Berkeley Water Center is developing a Water Cyberinfrastructure prototype that can be used to investigate and eventually manage water resources. The Water Cyberinfrastructure is developing in close collaboration between IT, physical science, and California water agency leaders. The value of the Cyberinfrastructure prototype will be tested through relevant end-to-end demonstration focused on important California Basins. The study region(s) are chosen based on several criteria, including availability of the data, importance of the problem that can be tackled given the cyberinfrastructure to California, leveraging opportunity, and scientific importance of the problems to be addressed. The BWC is currently building partnerships with several water representatives, such as the USGS, Sonoma County Water Agency, the Monterey County Water Resource Agency, and the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service. Our objective with the California Water projects is to first assemble only the most critical components needed to address relevant science questions, rather than to initially create fully developed problem solving environments or construct a grand scale solution.openUnited Statesrestricted; other - Notice to Userscloseddisciplinary/institutionalCalifornia Water CyberInfrastructureglobe.jpghttp://bwc.berkeley.edu/California/default.htmglobe.jpg
