AlabamaJul-20Alabama Code Title 17. Elections § 17-12-8

"As soon as the ballots are counted, the inspectors shall ascertain the number of votes received for each person and for what office and shall make a statement of the same in writing, which statement shall be signed by them.  They shall also certify in writing on both the clerk's poll list and the voters' poll list, that the poll list is the poll list of the voting places at which they were inspectors, the day and year on which the election was held, and for what offices, which certificates shall be signed by them.  The clerk's poll list, as sealed and certified, shall be placed in the records of election containers to be furnished for each voting place.  The record of election containers shall be securely sealed and delivered by the precinct returning officer to the sheriff as county returning officer.  No later than two hours after the polls are closed, the voting place election results as tabulated by the inspectors shall be posted by the inspectors for public inspection at a place in the county courthouse designated by the judge of probate."

MichiganAug-04PUBLIC ACCESS TO PRECINCT RESULTS AFTER POLLS CLOSE: Michigan election law, MCL 168.807, stipulates that as soon as the precinct board has obtained the precinct’s vote totals after the polls have closed, the results must be made available to any interested person who may be present in the polling place. Michigan election law, MCL 168.801, further provides that at least one door to the polling place must remain unlocked during the closing of the polls and the generation of the precinct’s vote totals. Persons observing the closing of the polls may not enter the processing area and must conduct themselves in an orderly manner. The board may clear the polls,if necessary,toassure the orderly completion of the precinct’s records. MM 168.801 Canvass of votes by precinct inspectors; public access. Immediately on closing the polls, the board of inspectors of election in each precinct shall proceed to canvass the vote. Such canvass shall commence by a comparison of the poll lists and a correction of any mistakes that may be found therein until they shall be found or made to agree. Such canvass shall be public and the doors to the polling places and at least 1 door in the building housing the polling places and giving ready access to them shall not be locked during such canvass. 168.807 Election results; availability. The third paper tape, from each machine, shall be posted on the wall of the polling place. The first results tape, including pre-opening zero (000) tape, from each machine and a precinct total tape shall be attached to the original tally sheet, and the second paper tape from each machine and a precinct total tape shall be attached to the duplicate tally sheet by the precinct registrars.
