Researchindependant researchCSYD – Clubes Sociales y Deportivos in Buenos Aires. This doctoral thesis, supervised by Andreas Lechner at TU Graz, presents a typological study of the Clubes Sociales y Deportivos (Social and Sports Clubs) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. These institutions, deeply rooted in the country’s migration history, serve as non-profit, multi-purpose spaces offering leisure, education, and sports activities. Through a typological analysis, the thesis explores the unique architectural evolution of these clubs, highlighting their flexibility and diachronic nature. Unlike other international models the Argentine clubs offer an ongoing, evolving architectural process that reflects social cohesion and civil society. The work emphasizes the relevance of architecture in shaping cities and societies, arguing that these clubs provide valuable insights into the emancipatory potential of architecture and its role in transforming urban environments.
The research project was included in the shortlist (7 out of 200) for the ETH GTA doctoral program.2018 – ongoingBuenos Aires, Argentina
