The Association started in the late 1950s and was called Cape Kennedy Personnel, which was open to Cape firms only. Later, the Association changed its name several times. From Cape Kennedy Personnel, it became known as Cape Canaveral Personnel and then in the early 1960s it changed again to Brevard Personnel Association and was open to all Brevard County employers. It remained Brevard Personnel Association until 1991, when it changed to its present name of Space Coast Human Resource Association. According to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) records, the chapter was charted in October 1964 as the Cape Kennedy Personnel Association with a membership of 77, of which nine members were members of ASPA, the predecessor to SHRM.
