11.00 - 11.30Matas Samulionis "The Idea of Form and Possible Principles of Structurization In Improvisation"

ABSTRACT
The possibilities of shaping contemporary improvisational music without predetermining stylistic frameworks, specifying the type or number of instruments, limiting pitch choices, and similar constraints. The proposed ideas for structuring and shaping are suggested as tools for creating performance-based improvisation, consciously forming the improvisation during performance, and analysing improvisations that have already occurred. One of the methods introduced is Milton Mermikides' concept of M-Space (Musical Space), which is being adapted within this presentation. The types of musical parameters, their interaction within the context of M-Space, and possible strategies for shaping them will be discussed. The movement aspect of M-Space is based on principles of human memory types and functioning. The primary question, also observed in other works related to contemporary improvised music, is the search for a balance between freedom and control. Here Stuart Hall's theory of encoding/decoding helps to shape the narrative. Therefore, after presenting the conceptual tools, further will be explored more abstract possibilities for shaping improvisational music, drawing on Christopher Small's concept of "musicking" and its contextual adaptation in improvisation, complemented by Daniel Leech-Wilkinson's notion of "musical shape".

11.30 - 12 00Žilvinas Vingelis "Theatre as hypermedia: visual theatre dramaturgy as a montage of different medias"

ABSTRACT
The presentation summarises the artistic research journey developed during past three years of doctoral studies. It discusses media theory (concepts of multimodality, intermediality and transmediality) in the context of interdisciplinary art and visual theatre, where theatre will be understood as a hypermedia, capable of integrating all other medias without losing its ontological characteristics.
Montage as a method will be used as a way of combining these different medias into a nonverbal audio-visual narration and exploring their interrelationships in the visual theatre territory.
It will be argued that montage, as not only a technical stage of filmmaking, but also a methodology for the creation of theatrical dramaturgy, can open up new ways of creating interdisciplinary and audiovisual stage works and new strategies for the composition of the components and media that act within these works.
The personal creative strategy developed through the montage method will be revealed through personal examples of directorial practice in the fields of theatre and interdisciplinary art, as well as the practical experience of teaching and organising workshops on visual theatre, contemporary puppetry and object theatre.
