Our primary role at city hall, as the command center during a catastrophic event/disaster would be to instill a sense of safety, calm and to stay organized & be efficient in communication, cooperation of local resources & entities, and to collaborate with those resources toward a positive recovery for everyone.

Des Moines County Disaster Recovery Organization

Our role depends upon the disaster and what is needed by those impacted at the time

We can serve meals for long periods of time and are also willing to leave our trailer(s) for use for several months after the disaster. / We serve nationwide. We are hoping to place a trailer unit somewhere in Iowa for immediate response, and then we can also bring our equipment from Kearney, Nebraska, to increase the number of meals we can serve each day.

HHS supports the state numerous ways when there is a natural or man-made disaster regardless of the size of the event

IFA can provide information and referral to housing recovery resources, including Iowa's certified Local Housing Trust Funds. IowaHousingSearch.org is Iowa's free rental housing locator, which IFA administers. Another IFA partner is IowaMortgageHelp.com, which is a free mortgage counseling resource for Iowans who fear they may not be able to make their mortgage payment.

There are a variety areas that food banks work in times of disaster. The key area of concentration is ensuring food and water are available to the impacted public. The six food banks serving Iowa ( our member food banks) include Northeast Iowa Food Bank, HACAP Food Reservoir, River Bend Food Bank, Food Bank of Iowa, Food Bank of Siouxland and Food Bank for the Heartland. A variety of partnerships are maintained by each food bank for their service area. Iowa Food Bank Association is dedicated to work together to ensure safe food and water are made available to Iowans across the state and work in partnerships with other organizations working to support Iowans in times of disaster.

Iowa Homeland Security & Emergency Management

LAP-AID is a community organization active in disaster. Therefore, connections to nonprofit and governmental organizations in our community provide the opportunity for a variety of disaster response activities.

As a CERT team our members have received training in a variety of topics to be able to assist the community and first response agencies during times of disaster.

We would be the entity assessing needs amd trying to source and coordinate the resources needed

We house and feed the volunteers that serve with us and we do our own recruitment and management of the volunteers

Connecting all of the above needs to ethnic community-based orgs, as well as providers serving those communities.

Samaritan's Purse focuses on homeowners' primary residences and most commercial and rental property physical assistance are beyond the scope of our relief efforts.

Volunteer Management Assistance in coordination with Central Iowa RSVP. Their discretion if they will deploy outside of Story County.

Individual Salvation Army units offer different services and are overseen by our Divisional Headquarters in Omaha, NE. The Iowa representative can help coordinate for the units and get people in touch as needed.
