There will be one breakfast funday once a month where they might have the opportunity to make something more fun, such as waffles or smoothies. Lisgar Jack ChapterClub head: Ruthie Diamond / Vice-head: Athenes Poaty-AmarMs. HammondJack.org is a Canadian organization whose mission is to promote positive mental health and kindness. It has over 100 chapters at high schools, colleges, and universities. With mentorship and funding from Jack.org, chapters run activities that reflect the needs of their communities. One of the highlights of the Lisgar Jack Chapter's work last year was running events for Wellness Week, such as giving out positive affirmations and raising money for the Canadian Addiction and Mental Health Association. A typical meeting includes brainstorming and planning for upcoming events, or doing a mental health themed activity such as volunteering, bracelet making, or gardening.Meetings will be held in person at lunch in Ms. Hammonds room (N102). Anyone is invited to write a piece for our editions, whether that be students or teachers! We look for all sorts of articles, with no limit on each edition—it could be a standard news article on a Lisgar event (like Student Council events, music nights, sports competitions), an opinion piece about anything they wish, and creative short stories or poems. It has several benefits including gaining broad, multi-faceted knowledge across different disciplines beyond regular academic subjects. Furthermore, participating in debates helps in increasing confidence, poise, and self-esteem. It also improves rigorous higher-order and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to structure and organize thoughts. Additionally, it enhances analytical, research, and note-taking skills, improves the ability to form balanced, well-informed arguments using reasoning and evidence, and develops effective speech composition and delivery. Debate encourages teamwork and develops skills essential to any future career. Doing well in debate tournaments can also make you stand out as an applicant for future education and jobs. We wish to have facilitated discussion sessions, look at different instructional materials (movies, book excerpts, videos, etc.), and experiment with thought experiments and ethical dilemmas. We want this club to be an opportunity for people to broaden their understanding of philosophical topics by listening to the points of view of both their peers and of professionals, but also through active discussion of their own ideas. We wish to serve coffee, tea and other hot drinks in order to honour and mimic the atmosphere of the famous "Cafe de Flore", where Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir did much of their philosophizing. This group is ideal for those with interest and ideally some experience in music.
