The following list includes courses on topics related to the study of Middle Eastern and North African societies. Students electing the Academic Major or Minor in Middle Eastern and North African Studies should consult the MENAS advisor for approval of any course to be used toward the program. Independent study and directed reading courses may also be used toward a major or minor when appropriate. Please consult the LSA Course Guide (http://www.lsa.umich.edu/cg/) and relevant departments for details. Courses in modern language departments are listed only when their topics are relevant to an understanding of the culture, history, and politics of Middle Eastern and North African societies. Students are invited to consult the LSA Course Guide for a complete list of language courses. The following list includes courses relating to the Modern Middle East and North Africa, many of which can be applied to MENAS master's degree. Courses marked as MENAS approved will count toward the maters degree program without further approval. MENAS related courses require approval from the MENAS advisor to be applied to a degree. Independent study and directed reading courses may also be used toward a MENAS degree when appropriate. Longer descriptions and additional information for each course can be found in the LSA Course Guide (http://www.lsa.umich.edu/cg/) and relevant department for details. Courses at the 400 level must be approved by an advisor to be eligible for graduate credit.
