2 | 1/21/2021 23:50:48 | My dear Varus, During my last stay in Morrowind, while I had the joy to visit the village of Ebonheart, I was appalled by the way you were eating. I understand you are far from home, and surrounded by savages. But this is not a reason to eat like them! When you come back I will take care of this, I assure you. With the help of my new maid Acantha, I recreated your favourite treat. Do you remember? Despite the efforts of this good boy, Canctunian Ponius, I could not get my hands on all of the ingredients. What a shame, indeed. Being lost at the edge does not have many advantages, I suppose. We managed to make something similar in taste, though, using those alien ingredients. You just have to cook kwama eggs and wickwheat in water, then add a pinch of fire salts. That porridge did not end bad at all, and this little bit of home somehow lifted my spirits. I hope to see you in better shape, you were so skinny last time. This week I will share with you a mysterious event I bore witness to, but first; the Theol Tonic Tip. If you wish to spot a creature of mystery, while the moons are just so: this tonic will raise your chances considerably. Start with a base of Shein, four fingers high in a small glass will do. 8 | 1/22/2021 5:09:09 | Gothel, I hope all is well. It is worrisome, the way you describe little Fesils nightly activities. As you say; naught has happened as of yet and by the Three, let us pray nothing happens henceforth. But as we have known each other so long, you would think something was amiss if I were to forgo redundancies. Here follows a recipe for a paste which can be presented as a snack, provided you include whatever sweet attracts Fesil nowadays. The effects would serve to limit the range of his excursions somewhat. The first step is to chop, dry and produce a powder from the Bungler's Bane fungus (take special care to verify the species, there are many with its likeness). Your next task is to separate the petals from a handful of Gold Kanet, the flower. A score or so petals will do. Lastly, the binder takes the form of Shalk Resin. Since it is very difficult to work and consume in its natural state, I suggest a spirit, for example Greef, to soften it. I leave the specifics of the consistency to you. All these parts are to be mixed together, including the sweetener of your choice, and left to dry until the surface is such that it is only slightly sticky. Start administering it in small doses, increased weekly until the desired effect is evident. 14 | 1/22/2021 10:04:01 | 3E 427 27th of Sun's Dawn. My experiments with maritime ingredients continue. I have heard about dishes set aflame with spirits and sought to apply it. Methods and result below. Ingredients: A flammable spirit, in this case Sujamma. A small glass of it will do. The meat, I chose a side of salmon. Seasoning, I tried stoneflower petals. At least two petal clusters. Methodology: Make long slices into the fish. Chop the petals and mix into some oil. Pour the oil over the fish. Warm a deep dish and the spirits by the fire. Cook the fish over coals, all the way through. Place the cooked fish inside the dish. Pour in the spirits and set alight. Serve after the fire dies out. Result: The consistency of the fish was excellent but is hardly due to the flaming spirits. It seems like Sujamma is a poor choice, perhaps a more aromatic product such as Greef or Brandy would yield a better result. The choice of stoneflower petals equally resulted in a disappointment; the taste was in no way elevated. 19 | 1/22/2021 12:50:35 | Middas 16th, Rain's Hand I believed at first that the rumors were just that. Mere whisperings among these deranged mer living amidst the ash and waste here on Vvardenfell, but you know that I am nothing if not a dedicated connoisseur of exotic cuisines. Well, Ygritte, I believe you will find that this little urban legend is, in fact, quite real. That fabled "secret weapon" of the outlying Ashlander tribes, a kind of elixir intended for use by their finest hunters, is administered after a ceremonial rite. Ashlander hunters of notable skill are required to undergo a difficult trial in which they entrench themselves deep within the lair of great, hideous beasts while under the effects of mind-enfeebling potions. Should they survive this ordeal and return to their Ashkhan, they are presented with not only their first taste of this elixir, but the sacred recipe with which to produce more if ever they should need it. It was difficult, of course, to maintain that Chameleon spell for two weeks straight, but I managed to sneak into the nearest camp while one of their hunters was undergoing one such trial and observe as their wise women brewed the elixir in secret. The recipe is as follows: -1 Ash Yam -1 Chokeweed -2 Shalk Resin -2 Scuttle Firstly, the ash yam must be completely diced and cooked in a very minimal amount of water, bringing out both its flavor and potent alchemical effects prevalently within said minimal level of water. Second, you must soften the shalk resin over a meager flame, then slowly stir it into your ash-yam-water. You'll know you're doing it properly if your mixture becomes just a hair thinner than a sort of custard. Next, add in your chokeweed, though you must be certain to grind it down into a very fine, powdery substance first. Lastly, you'll need to burn the scuttle till it becomes black and highly brittle, and then stir it into the rest of the mixture, and allow it to sit over an open flame for three days. The resulting emerald-green liquid is the elixir you're looking for. I trust you will make excellent use of its effects, warrior-nomad that you are. I am so very proud of you, my darling daughter, I know you will go on to become an excellent gourmet like your father some day. | -Fortify Strength -Resist Common Disease -Fortify Fatigue -Drain Personality For 3 in-game hours. | Ash yams, chokeweed, shalk resin, and scuttle. | "The Dirty Ashlander," or "Tamer of the Ashlands," depending on whom you ask. | Depending on your interpretation of this dish, it'll either be bottled up in an Imperial style, or it'll have come directly from an Ashlander camp, likely having it be in a little cup made from a round, hollowed-out stone. 23 | 1/22/2021 13:49:14 | Named both because the recipe was created there, and because it's become a tradition in many parts of Morrowind to serve it to those about to go on a long trip, in the hope of giving them the strength to get there safely, Vehk's fortitude is a soup made of plate trout, abundant in the shallows and lakes near Vivec city, ash yam, the filling and plentiful food of the masses, stoneflower petals, whose pretty blue colour gives colour to the dish, and mazte, brewed locally from the plentiful saltrice. The ash yam is added first, cut into cubes and boiled thoroughly to soften it and clean some of the ash. Once about half done, the cubes are added to another pot, into which roughly cut trout is added. The locals waste nothing, adding even the heads and tails to the dish, and leaving in the bones until the end to enrich the broth. Once the fish and yam are cooked, the pot is removed from the fire, and the stoneflower petals and mazte are both added. It's important not to cook either for too long, since the delicate (for Morrowind) blue petals quickly disappear, and the mazte loses its potency. The dish is served piping hot, and usually sold in small stalls or carts which can leave the yams and fish cooking for long periods over a small fire, adding the critical ingredients only when customers arrive. | It's a wholesome soup, increased willpower and/or strength, like the ingredients themselves. | Ash yam (x2, perhaps?), plate trout (it's a freshwater fish, but I'm sure there's some freshwater near Vivec), stoneflower petals, mazte | Vehk's Fortitude | Imagine like a fish and potato soup, with little blue stoneflower petals floating in it | Firesoul, Discord | ||||||

27 | 1/22/2021 14:53:58 | Saltrice Bread has a long and storied history in Morrowind. According to legend, a visiting nobleman from High Rock, then part of the Alessian Empire, was working as a diplomat in Morrowind when he despaired of the lack of his native land's rich variety of breads, pastries, and cakes. Unable to reliably import flour, he turned to local ingredients; that is, to saltrice. Saltrice is very different from wheat, however, and the taste of ash is extremely hard to remove from it. Yet the Breton noble persisted, discovering that he could partially counteract the taste of the ash with a small amount of frost salts, and that after washing he could grind the mixture with a quern stone into an acceptable form of flour. From there, making bread is as simple as mixing with water, a kwama egg, and yeast from local shein (which also provides the sugar), kneading it into a dough, and cooking it in a wood oven until it rises. Saltrice Bread remained fairly obscure however, eaten almost exclusively by visiting dignitaries from other lands, until some of the House Hlaalu nobles starting eating it as a status symbol. From them, it spread to Imperial garrisons during the Third Empire, with it being said that some soldiers even missed it upon their return to Cyrodiil. | Some sort of boost to either fatigue or endurance, perhaps. 36 | 1/23/2021 9:17:45 | It was me against the wild, you see. The unforgiving and relentless nature of this island only allows for the most proficient hunters to prosper. As luck would have it, "proficient" can only begin to describe me! It was late in the day, the Towers emanations turning the sky that much darker. 67 | 2/1/2021 3:49:11 | Sedura, I'm very glad that you enjoyed your time in the Ascadian Isles. As to the tea that you enjoyed here, I'm uncertain how easy it will be to find the ingredients for it outside of Morrowind, but I attach a recipe for it below. First stew gold kanet in boiling water for around half an hour. Once ready, add a shot of flin and a single silver septim, traditional as a way to detect poison, but now largely decorative. As you know, we of House Hlaahu prize imperial coins for their greater purity, and they're in ready circulation throughout our lands. A variation of this tea exists, called Roland's Tea. It differs by using a rare flower called Roland's Tears, found near Ald Sotha, rather than the more common gold kanet. Since Roland's Tears are somewhat bitter, and since they counteract many of the harmful effects of moon sugar, those who drink this tea generally add a little moon sugar for sweetness, though as loyal imperial subjects we of course denounce this practice. | Restore/boost strength as the only positive effect of the flowers. 69 | 2/11/2021 23:01:10 | "This delicate cake with its sweet comberry jelly is said to be favorited by Her Grace Almalexi, ALMSIVI. It takes a delicate hand to properly prepare. Traditionally, moon sugar was used to sweeten the bitter comberries, but marshmerrow is more commonplace now" My dearest Elenwen, I came across this recipe on a visit to mournhould, before the blight. This luxurious cake is simply a sight to behold! I have included the recipe here, for your cooks sake. Two weeks before starting this recipe, take you comberry and place them in a bottle of vintage brandy. Once you're ready to begin, place this mixture along with the, uh, sweetener over the fire and simmer for 30 minutes, than remove from heat and let cool. Separate the egg and yolk of the kwama egg. Whip the white until they are light and from peaks. I personally always get my ''assistant' to do this tedious work. Mix together the flour with a touch of water and the yolk of the kwama egg. Use finely ground flour, not the coarse grain peasants use. Gently fold the whipper kwama whites into the flour mixture. Place this into a round pan, cover and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from your brick oven, and cool. Slice the cake in half legnth wise, so that you form 2 smaller rounds. On the bottom round, place a thin layer of comberry jelly, and place the top back on. Cover the top with the jelly mixture as well. If available to you, place some sugar-like substance on top, and heat it with a gentle flame spell, so as to make it bubble without burning. Decorate the top with willow anther flowers, and serve alongside a glass of brandy. Yours, Umbacano | restore fatigue, frost shield, if moonsugar: fortify speed (slightly).
