Emergency ServicesNewsletterBarbara Christiansen 8/5/2017XAviation and Emergency Services program invited fifteen flight attendants from China to receive extensive training in how to handle fire and other in-flight emergencies. With the help of the RCA program, these skills were taught at the Emergency Services building, which enabled the flight attendants to receive hands-on training and acquire techniques for putting out a live fire. THe topics covered were broad and covered what UVU is doing to prevent sexual assault, police investigation and evidence collection, county hearings and trials, patient care and medical examination, victim services, protective orders, etc.

Emergency ServicesFaculty SuccessAndrew Byrnes3/7/2018xvAndrew Byrnes, Faculty in Emergency Services recently led a team of National SME’s in Hazardous Materials, National Guard Civil Support Team members, Industry Representatives and local Emergency Hazmat responders from Orem and Provo to collect data from 85 different chemical compounds. The compounds were challenged by 17 different classification and identification technologies and methods to determine the accuracy of identifying an unknown chemical or threat. Nothing has ever been attempted on this scale. The final data may be partially used in future National Fire Academy Curriculum for Hazardous Materials courses and in training the Nation’s Hazmat responders.Email

I have spoken to many of the other responders on this scene, all of whom were very impressed with Medic Student Newman's actions."
