Call to Order / Welcome / Introductions / OfficersRob5The meeting was called to order at 6:38PM.

Approval of Agenda / MinutesRob2Stephanie motioned to approve the agenda.  Jennifer Rankin seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.  Stephanie motioned to approve the 12/7/16 minutes.  Yolie Garcia seconded the motion.  Motion carried w/ two absentions.

News / Staff Report / Update

Principal's ReportPhil5Starting to prepare the master schedule.  Updating course catalogue; 70 pages done.  Aries information to go out.  All registration to be done on-line; store on-line too.  Schedules to be available in August.  Working on getting Noviance next year.  Noviance plans college careers, provides updated transcripts and scholarship information.  Offering Introduction to Business and Introduction to Sociology at new satellite campus from 3:15PM - 6PM.  Also, starting to look at budget.

ASB ReportMaya5Kindness Wall - complementing friends, smiling, making cards.  Current sports include Girls/Boys Basketball and Soccer.  Winter Wishes - 2/10/17 rally.  Winter Ball - $30 ASB members, $33 non-ASB members.  Trojan Olympics.

State PTA ConferenceJessie2April 28-30 in San Jose. Registration starts March 1. ~$150/person.  Jessie is interested in attending.    Conference covers parent programs, fund raising ideas, and officer roles. Robert Jung motioned to budget $200 for the conference.  Yolie Garcia seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

AuditRob2Audit was conducted for the period of 7/1/15 - 12/31/16, in six-month increments.  No discrepancies were found.  Stephanie motined to adopt the audit.  Phil Morales seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

Treasurer's ReportKumi5As of 12/31/16, the PTSA fund balance is $1,744.45.

Check RatificationKumi2Yolie Garcia motioned to approve the ratification of check #1400 through and including check #1403.  Vangie Robillos seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

MembershipVangie2Current PTSA membership stands at 152 members.  Would like to have some discussion next month on how we can increase membership.

Scholarship committeeYolie2300 - 500 letters were sent out requesting monetary donations for scholarships. The 2017 scholarship application is to be completed.  Deadline to apply for a scholarship is 4/1/17.  Four to seven scholarships are granted annually.

PTSA OfficersRob/Jessie5Robert Jung was elected to the School Board, therefore he is resigning as PTSA President.  Jessie Keung was nominated for President.  Phil Morales motioned to elect Jessie for PTSA President.  Jennifer Rankin seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanuimously.

Flea MarketJessie5Raised: $438.50 in the Fall.  Need better advertising through MHS/District and other PTAs.  4/22/17 was suggested for the next Flea Market.  Jessie Keung and Irma Gonzales volunteered to coordinate.

Outreach ProjectsRob/Jessie5The Latino Student Union will help run  the next Latino Outreach.  A possible honorary guest is Jose Escobar, Editor and Chief of the Arizona Newpaper.

Parent Volunteer Video ProjectRob2Would like to create a five minute video, highlighting the various ways parents can volunteer.  Need a photographer and videographer.

Fundraising

eWaste Rob2Ewaste 4 Good is year round (October - May).  Simply call them for the pick-up and they'll come to your home.  Be sure to identify MHS PTSA as the beneficiary.

ShoparooJessie2Goal this year is to reach $125K points to get $225.  Need more participation for Shoparoo,  Need more advertising on our websites.

Amazon SmileJessie2You can help MHS's indirect fund raiser by shopping on Amazon - go to smile.amazon.com and select MHS PTSA.  Proceeds earned in 2016 were $49.88.  Need more participation.

Parent SeminarW Feb 1, 2017Parent seminar for College Planning for 9 &10 graders was held on 2/7/2017. 51 attendees. Great success with positive feedback.
