The goal of this larger lesson is to be one cohesive ensemble by our December Christmas concert. Students should start to develop these skills by the end of the first nine weeks.Learning to play with classmates of differing ability levels7.2.1 7.2.2 7.2.3 7.2.4 7.2.5 7.5.1 7.5.2 7.5.3 7.6.2 7.7.2 7.8.2 7.8.3 7.8.4 7.8.5 7.9.1 This is the first time that 7th graders will experience being in an ensemble with more experienced classmates. This is important to experience for many reasons. The 7th graders have new models of playing excellence to strive for. The 8th graders have an opportunity to be in a leadership role and help the younger students develop their musicianship. Students will learn to how to navigate a wide variety of ability levels in order to create one cohesive sound. - In class playing tests over parts in the current music - in class observation of participation by the teacher - Students receive real time critique and advice during each band rehearsal. The director constantly analyzes the ensemble to ensure that each student is performing their part correctly.- JW Pepper music catalog - Foundations for Superior Performance method bookIn general, this class teaches students valuable skills that will aid them in successfully completing the ISTEP. Students learn time management, critical thinking, and how to analyze. Students in band have to think quickly in order to play every aspect of music correctly in a performance. This encourages positive test taking skills.

The assigment is dependent on student achievement. Students will have the entire school year to finish their "Scale Karate" challenge. Some will finish early, others may not finish. Students will be expected to finish a minimum of 2 scales a semester. 8 out of 12 scales will be achieved by the end of the school year.Scale Karate7.2.1 7.2.2 7.2.5 7.4.1 Students will receive a list of scales to be performed by memory at a specified tempo. Learning scales is an important set of fundamentals that all musicianships should develop. All music is based on a one scale or another, therefore the more comfortable the player becomes with scales, the easier it will be for the player to perform music of varying difficulties. - Sending the teacher a recording of the student playing the scale withint the specified parameters. -Playing the scale for the teacher at the end of class - Foundations for Superior Performance
