In Teaching Context, you will learn about your teaching environment by identifying challenges, resources, and gathering information about your students. With support from your mentor, you will focus on your class, school, district, and community and use this information to guide instructional decisions and identify areas for professional growth.

Secondary teachers should select one focus class. Focus class must contain English Learner students.

II. With your mentor, discuss the information gathered:
A. Collecting: You will gather class/caseload information. Mentor will support in gathering information, but will not
collect.
B. Contextualizing: Your mentor and you will discuss how the gathered information about teaching context might
impact instructional practice.
1. How do I plan instruction to meet the educational needs of this group of students?
2. What do I need to take into consideration as I begin planning instruction?
C. Extending: Take time to reflect on information gathered to deepen your thinking and understanding about your
instructional practices.

This step may be repeated throughout the induction year as you reflect about your instructional practice and have reflective conversations with your mentor.
