+1 Rachel
This is the most helpful book on startups that I've read so far. Clear, interesting, full of insight from lots of different kinds of people, and organized in a way that allows for easy flipping when you need guidance on a specific topic. Should be required for everyone in a startup.

From Rachel: this book is very practical and a quick read, and should 100% be required reading for everyone in this group as we all soar to new HOperations heights. The chapter on "the Wolf" is one of the most relatable things I have ever read about early stage startups. I felt so seen haha.

Clear, insightful, backed by experience, and with clear tactics and frameworks you can try yourself.

Delivering HappinessTony Hsiehhttps://www.amazon.com/Delivering-Happiness-Profits-Passion-Purpose-ebook/dp/B003JTHXN6/ref=sr_1_1?crid=ZZQJSLJAYGBK&keywords=delivering+happiness+by+tony+hsieh&qid=1640968500&s=books&sprefix=delivering%2Cstripbooks%2C56&sr=1-14JoeIt's part business history, part memoir, and part philophical guide, and entirely worth a read. Tony Hsieh was obviously a complicated person, but the story of how he built Zappos is fascinating and the lessons he shares about being customer-obsessed and mission-driven are transferrable and so important to any type of business.

Zero to OnePeter Thielhttps://www.amazon.com/Zero-One-Notes-Startups-Future-ebook/dp/B00J6YBOFQ/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1EVFZ9437A2T1&keywords=zero+to+one+peter+thiel&qid=1640968100&s=books&sprefix=zero+to%2Cstripbooks%2C60&sr=1-14JoeSay what you want about Thiel, but he's got interesting insight. I found this book to be really helpful when I was just starting at Unit – it provides a good structure for how to think about a lot of the difficult things that come with being early at an early-stage company.

Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary CompaniesJim Collins & Jerry Porrashttps://www.amazon.com/Built-Last-Successful-Visionary-Essentials-ebook/dp/B0058DRSHW/ref=sr_1_1?crid=256W69ZEUJC3I&keywords=built+to+last+jim+collins&qid=1640968936&sprefix=built+to+%2Caps%2C61&sr=8-13JoeIt's a really rich and comprehensive assessment of the characteristics that set "visionary" companies apart from their competitors. It's well researched and written, though it does get long. It's also highly anecdotal, in case that's not really your thing.

Dream TeamsShane Snowhttps://www.amazon.com/Dream-Teams-Working-Together-Without/dp/07352177933JoeI really enjoyed the examples used as well as the reminders that inclusion always trumps exclusion, not only for moral reasons but also self-interested and practical ones. If you want to find the best solution to a complex problem, build a team of people who will attack it from different directions!

How to Win Friends and Influence PeopleDale Carnegiehttps://www.amazon.com/How-Win-Friends-Influence-People-ebook/dp/B003WEAI4E/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3EAP3P4UEEIXO&keywords=how+to+win+friends+and+influence+people+dale+carnegie&qid=1640967934&s=books&sprefix=how+to+%2Cstripbooks%2C81&sr=1-13JoeIt's old fashioned, but the advice is timeless and worth a reminder. Or just remember to "Be hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise" and go from there :)

Never Split the DifferenceChris Vosshttps://www.amazon.com/Never-Split-Difference-Negotiating-Depended-ebook/dp/B014DUR7L2/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1R28ME5YW3H61&keywords=never+split+the+difference&qid=1640967742&s=books&sprefix=never%2Cstripbooks%2C65&sr=1-13JoeComing from negotiating classes in law school (which are typically about finding a common ground and tactics to get find the acceptable solution as fast as possible), Never Split the Difference was a different, more no-holds-barred approach to negotiation. I don't necessarily agree with the approach, and I found the author's personal style to be abrasive (reading this book induced more than one eye-roll), but the concepts are interesting and worth reviewing as a complement to a more "Getting to Yes"-style approach.

The GoalEliyahu Goldratthttps://www.amazon.com/dp/0884271951/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&aaxitk=a554214c5776c1f66ea566c849bbf857&hsa_cr_id=1031593490001&pd_rd_plhdr=t&pd_rd_r=2207037d-8dde-422b-82e7-215fd545056d&pd_rd_w=vjZzl&pd_rd_wg=ziRll&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_mcd_asin_0_img3TristaI found the Goal to be really helpful when I was first getting started. It's about a guy who works at a factory that is a lower performer and at risk of being shut down. Told in the 1st person, it's about his journey to make the factory successful and every facet of the organization he changed to make it so. A really good example of what Operations is/ can be.

Checklist ManifestoAtul Gawandehttps://www.amazon.com/Checklist-Manifesto-How-Things-Right/dp/0312430000/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2RXLF1170UUGF&keywords=checklist+manifesto&qid=1641175304&s=books&sprefix=checklist+%2Cstripbooks%2C71&sr=1-15TristaThis is one of those books you read once and the concept sticks with you forever. It details how airlines and hospitals use checklists to ensure they are failproof, in their no-margin-for-error industries. It's helpful to understand how extremely detailed and thorough these industries are, and acts as a guide to help you develop a checklist strategy across your own operation.

One of the most influential books for me as I began managing others.

Start With WhySimon Sinekhttps://www.amazon.com/Start-Why-Leaders-Inspire-Everyone-ebook/dp/B002Q6XUE4/ref=sr_1_1?crid=T1GX6YA7SXUJ&keywords=start+with+why+simon+sinek&qid=1640968674&s=books&sprefix=start%2Cstripbooks%2C61&sr=1-12JoeIt's not that it's a bad book – it's just very repetitive. Read the first 50 pages and you'll get the idea. This may be an occaison where the movie is better than the book – Sinek's TED Talk on the same topic is one of the most widely viewed: https://www.ted.com/talks/simon_sinek_how_great_leaders_inspire_action?language=en

The Effortless ExperienceMatthew Dixonhttps://www.amazon.com/Effortless-Experience-Conquering-Battleground-Customer/dp/15918458155TristaI loved this book - a great guide on how to do cx well at a large organization. Super helpful to think big picture about long term cx planning at a startup. Also, new metric of customer effort, instead of just NPS and CSAT.
