SAFETY RUNNER'S JOB DESCRIPTION: Ride in the SAFETY VEHICLE's ("follow") back seat on the day of the event & be prepared to hop out of vehicle to run/jog in a situation where flag carriers are not present to accept the flag at a flag hand off (FHO)/transition point, or in the case of when a runner/jogger is injured unexpectedly & cannot continue their portion of the relay. NOTE: The SAFETY RUNNER should be in excellent condition in case multiple miles of participation are required during a segment. If no support miles are required during the segment, the SAFETY RUNNER can exit the vehicle & run/jog the last mile or two of the segment with other flag carriers. ASAPComplete Phone Interview with NMDFR 2025 Volunteer Segment Coordinator (local VSC) for the designated Flag#/Segment.

21 MAY/WED.5 Days PriorReconnect with Volunteer Segment Coordinator (VSC) for designated Flag#/Segment & reconfirm participation as SAFETY RUNNER.

26 MAY/MON.DAY OF RELAY05:30/SAFETY RUNNER arrives @ START point for 06:00AM launch per local time

05:35AM/SAFETY RUNNER meets & participates in final brief/coordination with NMDFR Local Support Team (LST)

05:40AM/SAFETY RUNNER meets & listens to final brief/coordination with local law enforcement escorts available @ START point led by VSC.

05:45AM/Take picture with NMDFR Local Support Team & Mile #1 set of flag relayers

05:50AM/Attend brief "Start Ceremony" to include reciting John 15:13, a "Moment of Silence" & prayer for safety -- led by VSC or designee

06:00AM/Assist Flag#/Segment VSC in launching & conducting NMDFR 2025 activity sequence for designated Flag#/Segment as prescribed according to plan/training

THROUGHOUT FLAG#/SEGMENT RELAY: The primary responsibility of the SAFETY RUNNER is to ride in the back seat of the SAFETY VEHICLE & as necessary hop out of the vehicle to fill-in for any "no shows," or replace an injured runner, so that the relay can keep moving along the designated route. After filling in (if needed), the SAFETY RUNNER should reenter the SAFETY VEHICLE & continue along the route in case needed again.
