I made this database as a tool for filmmakers, film festival organizers, and anyone interested in the American film festival landscape. I created guidelines for inclusion I felt were reasonable in order to keep the list manageable and coherent, and compiled festivals from FilmFreeway, Withoutabox, and various aggregated lists including Seed&Spark's and New York Film Academy's. I'm certain there are still festivals that satisfy the guidelines (listed above) that I haven't yet included. If you find any, please email and let me know! This is a living document, and I welcome people to contribute additional qualifying festivals so the list becomes more comprehensive with time. Special thanks to the John R. Borchert Map Library at the University of Minnesota for hosting the GIS web service for the ArcGIS Online map.

Filmmakers: I haven't curated this list beyond my guidelines for inclusion and the columns for Oscar qualifying fests. While it won't tell you which festivals you should submit to, hopefully it will be a helpful resource and/or organizational tool as you navigate the festival process!
41
42
Film Festival Organizers: I hope this project - particularly the calendar and maps - can provide an informative macro view of the American festival landscape as you plan, schedule, and contextualize your own festival.

44
I will update this database and its components as soon as I'm able as I learn of new information. If there is sustained interest in and support for the project, I'll consider replicating - and possible expanding - it for 2020 and beyond.
45
46
A very sincere thanks to those who have contributed to the project so far - Paul Fischer, Nick Baldwin, Ryan Mattke, and Isabella Matejka.
