Master’s Assistantship: Alligator Snapping Turtle Conservation and Research at the Memphis Zoo

*Start date must be by May 2026, but can be as early as January 2025*

Position description:
The Neuman-Lee lab at Arkansas State University is working in partnership with Drs. Sheila Poo and Steven Reichling at Memphis Zoo to recruit a jointly funded 2-year Master’s student to establish a research program on Alligator Snapping Turtles (Macrochelys temminckii) in Western Tennessee. Alligator Snapping Turtles are of conservation concern in the state of Tennessee, yet little is known about their physiology, habitat preferences, and demographics. The successful applicant would work closely with the Memphis Zoo to trap turtles, measure morphological features, evaluate physiological metrics, and conduct habitat assessments.

Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology, or related field is required.

If interested, please contact Dr. Neuman-Lee at lneumanlee@astate.edu.

Please put “AST graduate position” in the subject heading.

If you plan to apply, please send the following to Dr. Neuman-Lee:
1. A cover letter that details interests, experiences/skills, and goals
2. A Curriculum vitae (CV) with three references listed
