2ECCC Consultation on commitment to require all new cars sold in Canada be zero emission by 203521 January 2022117 Dec 2021Probably important. Not especially "user friendly". The Website gives information and refers to two discussion papers, one on light-duty ZEVs and one on heavy-duty ZEVs. One should review these before answering the questions, but the light-duty ZEV PDF is very easy to read. One makes one's submission by email to: infovehiculeetmoteur-vehicleandengineinfo@ec.gc.ca. The format can be PDF or plain text.

4Department of Finance Consultation on Border Carbon Adjustments31 January 2022While BCAs are very important (in part because they provide a way to influence the climate change behaviour of other export nations such as China and India), they are hideously complicated and require at least some international negotiations with our closest trading allies (like the US and the EU). It is doubtful what an individual could contribute. Subject, perhaps, to a closer look, we may wish to give this a low priority.

5Response to ECCC "Review of the OBPS Regulations: Consultation Paper"24 January 202210 Dec 2021People making submissions must read the "Consultation Paper" mentioned to the left and then submit their response. It might be important for ENGOs to reply, because the government is proposing to tighten the output-based standards by 2% each year starting in 2023. This will be vigorously resisted by most industries. Provide feedback by email to: tarificationducarbone-carbonpricing@ec.gc.ca. Note: "The treatment of electricity generation in the OBPS is not considered in this review. ECCC will consider revisions to the treatement of electricity generation under the OBPS as part of the process to introduce a Clean Electricity standard that will set Canada on a path to cut more emissions by 2030 and to achieve a 100% net-zero emitting electricity system by 2035."

6Just TransitionUnclear"The deadline for submissions has been extended beyond September 30, until further notice." There is a discussion paper on the website. NRCan suggests that you read the discussion paper and answer questions posed in it by email. "Through the virtual sessions (by invitation), we will engage broadly with workers, communities, provinces and territories, Indigenous Peoples, businesses and stakeholders." Presumably, an interested group could request an invitation to virtual discussion.
