MEDIATION RESOURCES

Mediation is the work to hold people through conflict, disagreement, misunderstanding or relationship change. It can be legally mandated, but for the purposes of this document we are just speaking about any community efforts to intervene on and support community through these moments of dissonance. Over the summer of 2020, we posted a call for mediators, and from the responses we began this resource. We are thrilled by just how many people want to support conflict and tension in movement spaces! We cannot vouch for each person, but we are trusting the good intentions of each person making their offer and including all of the information they shared.

The first set of offers are location-specific mediators. Following that is a list of people who didn’t name a location but/and may be able to help from anywhere. All handles are from Instagram unless otherwise noted. Recommendations - rather than people offering themselves - are also noted. We will keep working to develop this resource to be easier to use!

This is a living document. We wanted the list available to movements for justice and liberation ASAP, and we know there is more information and more people that could be added. If you are listed and want to update, add more information about yourself or your practice, or if you'd like to add yourself to it as someone who can help mediate movement conflict, please fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1atZWzQs4kzwdgJNoBf8loPwf-C81HW5xWS4MpEtd898/edit

We recognize that vetting a mediator out of the blue can be difficult. To that end, we have created this document on How to Vet a Mediator - please read this over before selecting a mediator, and as many times as needed during the process! If you know if someone who is listed and should not be, please email ambsassistant@gmail.com with your concerns.

Our hope is to particularly uplift and grow the field of Black mediators who are available to support Black movement needs. As you'll see, some of the descriptions include Black identity, while some explicitly share that they are non-Black. We have partnered with BEAM to help build a resource of Black specific mediators, so if you fit that description, please add your information here!
