Directions
8
1: Map out the business processes. You can use a paper and pencil or software of your choosing to draw a map of all your organizations processes. These processes will help you list all the functions. See the 2nd tab "Functions List or Map".
9
2: Use the 3rd tab "Organizational Functions Worksheet" to determine which functions are essential functions. Use the 4th tab "criteria for determining essential and non-essential functions" and add the determinate to the Organizational Functions Worksheet.
10
3: Add all discovered Essential Functions from the 3rd tab to the 5th tab "BPA Data Sheet" and analyze each function to add the additional details in the BPA Data Sheet. This is where most of the work will be. The previous tabs just helped you get to here. Use the 6th tab "Instructions for BPA Data Sheet" to help you understand the fields in the BPA Data Sheet. This will provide insight and discoveries that will lend to the Business Impact Analysis to help determine mitigation strategies and alternate solutions. The discovered solutions will eventually become part of your training, testing, and evaluation process.
11
4: Use the Hazard and Vulnerability Assessment (HVA) Worksheet on tab 7 to discover and prioritize risks and hazards. The "Instructions for HVA Worksheet" on tab 8 will help you understand the HVA Worksheet and input the correct numbers.
12
5: The prioritized essential functions and the prioritized threats and hazards will culminate into the Business Impact Analysis (BIA) Worksheet on tab 10. Use the "Instructions for BIA Worksheet" on tab 9 to help interpret fields in the BIA Worksheet.
13
6: The actions you identify, to continue business operations, from the BIA Worksheet, will then be placed into your Business Continuity Plan. The BPA Data Sheet on tab 5 and the BIA Worksheet on tab 10 will be valuable reference material for clarifying context, prescribing actions, choosing and conducting training, and testing and evaluating the solutions. All such are integral to your Business Continuity Management Program.
