Laurie Anzivine Memorial Scholarship FundAny in Cattaraugus County or 30-40 mile radiusA graduating high school senior from any high school in Cattaraugus County, first preference, or any high school within a 30-mile radius of Olean, NY, who will be attending a four-year college and who has had an immediate family member or guardian who has gone through cancer treatment. The student must be in good academic standing. Financial need is not a factor. The applicant must submit an essay of no more than 350 words explaining what the student learned from his/her family member or guardian who struggled with cancer and the impact it left on him/her and what advice the student would give to someone else who may face the same situation.

Financial need must be demonstrated. The student does not necessarily need to have the top grades, but demonstrate hard work toward overcoming a challenge and minimum grade of 2.0.

Emphasis will be placed on involvement in sports, but academic achievement will also be considered. Applicants must include list of outdoors sports in which they participate, a statement on importance of the role of sportsmen in conservation and management of fish and wildlife and natural resources, and information on career path in their goal statement.

The student must exhibit certain intangible qualities including: kindness to others, leadership, positive attitude, and sense of humor. The student must demonstrate past involvement in the community. $500 will be awarded first semester and $500 the second semester after the students first semester transcript is submitted.

As part of the common application the applicants must also provide a list of all financial aid, scholarships, or awards being received. A law enforcement career is not a prerequisite for consideration of this award, but may be taken into account as a tie breaker. Two awards annually, one to a boy and one to a girl, with the amount split equally between each.

Elias Eade Jr. was a lifetime resident of Olean who faithfully served God, his country, his family and the Olean community. Mr. Eade was a graduate of Olean High School and St. Bonaventure University and a member of the Olean business community for many years. Mr. Eade was an entrepreneur, leader and a man of great strength and integrity with an unprecedented work ethic. Candidates must be a graduate of Olean High School with good academic standing and leadership skills and who plan to continue their education at a trade school or 2- or 4-year college or university. Preference will be given to a student who was employed during high school, demonstrates financial need and is considering business as an academic path.

Students must be in good academic standing and must demonstrate financial need. If the student remains in good standing, the scholarship may be renewed for a period not to exceed 8 semesters (4 years). The first award will be made in 2022. Initially the award will be $10,000 per year, but the amount will depend on the spendable amount available each year. A new student will not be chosen until the first student completes the four-year award cycle (or does not re-apply).
