Perhaps the greatest Gorillaz song. The chorus is still such a breath of fresh air. Nothing sounds like this song. I've listened to this song so many times I can't listen objectively.

Another completely strange song. I've never heard anything like this one by anyone else. This is such like an anti-pop song that still sounds amazing. Damon's verse is wonderful. Classic melancholy Gorillaz. A little nasaly just like 2D should do it. IF THIS LOOOOOOVE IS ELECTRIC. Incredible build to that line. Bobby Womack sounds wild. Like, is there a chorus in this song? Nothing really feels like it. This song just keeps going and turns on. There are parts that repeat, but the bass line is always going the same in the background so every part kind of feels like the chorus. Such a strange track but its so so interesting

Everytime this song starts, I'm like, "oh bummer a slow one" and then I remember what is waiting for me and I get excited. Really nice subdued and pretty intro. Wonderful Damon melancholy vocal. Another quintessential Gorillaz verse. All of their records have love songs about resting in eachothers love despite all of the bad shit in the world. This is that one. Beautiful verses. God the beat switch build and synth is so good. It's so fucking loud when it comes in. Gives me fucking chills. AHH. It's PERFECT. It's so unexpected too. But it's STILL beautiful. Little Dragon's verse is amazing. The repeated verse once again is so good becuase the music supports it in just the right way. Despite being emotional and dramatic, the song is still... fun. and still cartoony. It's wonderful. None of these songs feel like they are too short or long. They are all a perfect length

This feels like an honest song from Damon. Like, the youth will enlighten me. It feels genuine and I like that it's this like intergenerational love song. We can lift eachother up, young and old. That is a cool song. And there's something to be said for the "Don't be sad for me, I'm just a cartoon, and my intent is to breath" like if this was the last song that Gorillaz ever recorded, that would be a beautiful ending. Like, acknowledging age. Acknowleding how much work has gone into these digital characters and making them feel human

This song is so fucking fun. The little tremelo piano that rings out the 8 count is sooo fucking satisfying. WHOOOOOOOO! THE UPBEAT PART! MAKES ME WANT TO JUMP AND CHEER AND CRY OF HAPPINESS! What a dang fun song. The funness of this feels like a Gorillaz song. This is my favorite song that Gorillaz have released in years

More good lyrics about guns. "I need gun to keep myself among the poor people burning in the sun" is an incredibly good line. Man I forgot Iraq was probably happening at this time.

traditionally one of my favorite gorillaz songs. its so haunting and strange. this is the first melancholy gorillaz track and i love melancholy gorillaz tracks. the weird vocal sample at the beginning is haunting. great chorus melody.

honestly such a good version of this song. the upbeat tempo is so much fun. such a good poppy version of this song. to be honest, i think this is often the definitive version of this song. this version is kind of like a perfect pop song to be honest.

The lyrics are soooo good at desicribing the uncanny nature of the plastic beach. They're pumped to be there but its also a fucked up place. This libertarian ideal sitting out in the ocean.

Another total turn. I've never listened to anything like this song. The cartoony orchestra. It's like I've woken up on the island and it's soundtracked like a children's cartoon. The performances are also great. The hand-drum is supremely interesting. Who would have ever thought you could pair this with dualing rap verses? The tension goign into the verse is great. I remember th first time I heard the beat I was thrown off. I didn't like it. But now, I think it's great. Verse 2 gives me chills when the bass line comes in. Love the cartoony nature of it. This feels like a quintessential Gorillaz song to me. What's wild is that Damon isn't on this one vocally at all, but it still captures all of the sounds that make Gorillaz interesting, in my opinion. Wild song.

Wonderful verse melody. Wonderful Damon delivery. It's so cute and fun. But still melancholic. It's another song that feels like Feel Good Inc. Just a really great love song.

None of this feels like it's part of the Cracker Island story. Every time I hear this song it makes me think of Across the Sea by Weezer if the same characters in that story were older. I guess the story is trying to say like Damon's life has been one of entertainment and her's is now one of utmost seriousness and like there's something lost there. To him she's just an innocent child. It's kind of hard to tell what he's getting at.

Okay, the musical pocket that they have here is wonderful. I really like this song. Really nice bass following the vocal line. The vocal line is good. The synths in the chorus feel nice. A good example of a song that finds the pocket and you don't want to leave. The song feels short but it's 3:40 so I think that says something good about it

Very disturbing and dark lyrics. "I hope sec and drugs rust into myself" is a wild line. "I'm of you and you of me" is good. Story of losing the earth and connection to it. I'm really into the lyrics of this whole song.

Lyrics feel so disconnected from the verse to the rapping but this song is just so succinct and tasty.

This song really opened my mind as a kid. I didn't know that you could like… tell a story over music like this. I think the story is simple but conveys the themes of the record of the really well. Mixing this fable with the nature of the USA line is really cool.

Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach

Here we are getting into the themes of the song.

Fantastic horn intro. The sustained chords feel so good. This is another that feels like such a great summation of the record. It's plodding. There's so much texture. The bass notes. The free vereses from Snoop welcoming us to the island. The beat is great. The synth presence is great foreshadowing to this album. I love how long the intro is. The little bass switch is really nice. It's tough because I don't think I've ever listened to this song solo. I don't know if I would. But in context of the record, it is PERFECT.

Really cool cyptic lyrics. I think it's quite abstract but in a compelling way.

FINALLY getting some Damon leads 4 songs in. The little acoustic guitars in the back are wonderful. Great grindy synth lead. This the first traditional song on the record. The second verse background synths are awesome. Just let that synth lead rock, baby

Sweepstakes is another really weird song in that it's just a big build up. But this song is so much fun. Mos Def kills it. The beat is cartoony but wholly in sonic themes with the rest of the upbeat songs on this record. The little lead synth lines that sneak in are really nice. I think the build up is really nice. Pretty abstract. Not as impactful as some

Like Empire Ants, I'm like "oh bummer a slow one" but then I remember. Fucking, that synth lead is so fucking good. What a good funk in the chorus. The verses are wonderful. Nice and short. A good song that sticks to the plan. Not as impactful as some songs, but just a good bop. I think this is the last bop on the record.

Wonderful ending, just like the orchestral intro. The album ends in a powerful way. Bobby Womack sounds wonderful. The verses unfold very nicely. The transition to the orchestra is beautiful. And they're reprising some themes from the intro. Just so, so tasteful. Really moody outro. I think it's wonderful. This is the true ending of the album

Feels like the last time we get the environmentalist lyrics too. "Still connected to the moment it began" feels like it brings the whole thing back to the present moment. So just drink, leave the taps on, we, right now, are connected to the moment that the downfall began. We are in the downfall.

This is the epilogue. BAHHHHHHHHHHHHH BAH. Makes me do the "stinky face". Awesome epilogue. Doesn't stay more than it should.

I love this song. In my opinion it has a classic Gorillaz sound. The melancholy chords, the plopping bass. The lead is catchy. There are African instruments. And the feature is amazing. He vocals rule. Damon's verse melody is good too. I like the horn parts that come in. I think they're very good. So much emotion in the vocals. I love this song.

I don't think it's really clear what they're talking about

I think the vocal melody isn't really that interesting. It gets kind of grating. There are a few notes that resolve really nicely. "They taught themselves to be occult" chorus line sounds nice. I don't think the setting of "Cracker Island" feels like a real place. Whereas the city in Demon Days and Plastic Beach feel truly built out. I think that this song is fun, but it's shallow. And that's sort of how I feel about a lot of songs on this record. The songs are decent but they sound like any artist could have made them.

It does feel really good thematically lyrically. This album touches so much on being lonely and lost and depressed with the world. So the last living souls line works well.

doesnt even sound like the original song. but its actually really interesting musically. i like that it's not a dance remix but like has a whole bunch of orignal verses. vocals delivered with some really cool energy and angst. pleasantly surprised with this one

incredibly satisfying beat despite its tinniness and simplicity. it's soooo cute and enjoyable. sounds like video game music. every piece of it that is introduced is sticky.

Beachy. Reggae-like. Little Dragon once again sounds wonderful. Song is kind of one-dimensional. All of the other tracks on this record have like 4 movements but this one is pretty consistent throughout. One of my least favorite on the record

Plastic Beach (Deluxe)

Feels like a true bonus track. It's the extended version of the orchestral intro, which is really nice to hear in full. And as the first extended cut at the end of the record, it's nice to fully return to that. Kind of like a reprise. The extra moments of the song are nice, but I think Damon did the right thing by not having the song go on for too long. There's so much wimsy that is lost in the full version though. I actually do think that this full version almost more thoroughly captures the mood of the record. But yes, it would have been too long. It's really nice, regardless. I'm glad that we get to hear it. I like that you can hear the Pirate Jet melody in here too.

man really bleak shit but it's good.

pretty good and urgent rap verses. i think the music is pretty haunting. really aggressive. one of the most cinematic tracks gorillaz has done in a while. since plastic beach. the lower register vocals are reall haunting. this is a cool song.

"From the early database of your love" is a decent line. "Interlocking cluster bombs 'Like drum and bass,' I thought" is sort of cool.

I find the percussion to be really overly simplistic. Like, I miss the stranger cartoonish sounds of other Gorillaz records. Verse is pretty boring. Verse 2 is so supremely superior simply because of the Stevie harmonies. I don't think there's a really noticable chorus in this though. I think Damon and Stevie actually sound great together but there isn't a melody that truly serves either of them. I want something better that they can work on. I think the song is okay, but there isn't anything ultimately very memorable on it.

"The Tired Influencer" is kind of too on the nose. None of the lyrics really feel like they are tied to the Cracker Island theme that much.

The 'personal assistant' samples feel too on the nose again. The chorus is better than Oil, I will say. I feel like I just want the song to get weirder. The bridge is pretty boring.

Okay, so I do think it's still too on the nose, but I like the idea of "silent running" as a name for scrolling on your phone. I do think that's a clever phrase for that act. Overall, I think writing a song about scrolling your phone is kind of boring

I don't really have a lot to say. It's kind of another mid song. It's not bad. Damon sounds good. The little "si-lent-run-in-in-ing" that Damon does sounds _too_ pop. It makes me laugh. I find it distracting. The ad-libbing vocals by Adeleye Omotayo sound nice. The main synth hook is decent. Ultimately just sounds like a pop song. It's not bad at all, it just doesn't really sound like a Gorillaz song.

Some rap lyrics about vanity. I guess all of the lyrics are all about vanity. Again, it doesn't say much interesting other than "shit is crazy right now" which i feel liek we all understand collectively. Like, we get it. Phones are corrupting us. But there's nothing new being said. We've know this for years at this point. I have no idea what the chorus is trying to say.

Another inoffensive pop song. The rap verses feel secondary. Like they're lower in the mix it feels like? It's weird like, so far, I _like_ this album because it's so inoffensive.

Just like I feel about most of the songs. They're inoffensive pop songs. They sound fine. But they don't sound like Gorillaz. Damon sounds good, I don't know. They songs don't change enough. It's generally like the same drum beat the entire time. I want _some_ cartooniness involved, you know?

It's mostly in spanish, so I don't know what's being said. That's okay. The chorus isn't saying anything. I guess like, the sunny nature of the "Island" feels relevant to these pop songs but again I don't know what the full story is here. The lore is light. It's almost like White Light has better "theme" in a song even though the song isn't as interesting. Like, white light is talking about rabid alcoholism which is in theme for the record

This song is the one that sounds most like some random pop song. I think that's because Damon isn't really featured on it. Bad Bunny sounds good. I like the minor note that gets in there. Like I said, this mostly feels like a pop song to me. It's good. But it's just not the thing that makes me feel excited.

Hey, it's faster. Dom Dolla looks like a dickhead. This feels like a callback to the remixes on G-Sides. Like dance versions of an album track. I do appreciate that. This a thing Gorillaz has done since the beginning. But it sounds more like dance music that I'm more familiar with. When the beat comes it, it's hard to say that it doesn't bop. I need to figure out how to think about dance music differently. The Bootie Brown verses sound nice sped up a little bit. I don't know where to put this so I just have to say that I don't like the album art for Cracker Island. It doesn't feel balanced. It doesn't feel distinct or iconic enough. It's probably my least favorite album cover maybe only on the same page as Humanz

Every Planet We Reach Is Dead

This is like the breakup arc of the album. The first tracks are all about the environment, guns, depression with the world. Since Feel Good Inc, they've been almost all love songs.

I find the music in this one to be kind of grating. I don't like the main riff enough. I think the droning high note is too high in the mix. I don't mind the verses. I like the harmonies. Very haunting. Really cool noisy outro that is easily the coolest part of the song. Might honestly even boost it up to a 7 just for the outro.

Feels kind of like a non-song to be honest. I like the sort of post-punky nature of it though. I used to love it's aggression. I still love the fatty guitar on it. It's a fun little weird song. Similar to the last song there's a really open little guitar section. Feels like an alcoholic has finally reached their bliss. This album has a lot of distorted and crazy parts that go to very open and pretty passages. It's fun.

More subdued than some other tracks. Really just feels like an extended outro.

Goes to show how good the beat to DARE is that you can put just about whatever you want over it. Fun little version of the song but full DARE is so much superior. I really like the little lo-fi instrumental bridge.
