The LTER Information Management Committee is contributing a brief report to the LTER 40 year review document describing the accomplishments and contributions of the IMC over the past decade (2008-2018). In addition to the direct impact of changing IM practices, the LTER IMC has led or contributed to a wide variety of broader impact activities -- from the E-IMC, which ultimately ended up merging with ESIP, to the sensor training activities that continue today at SEV. WE are using this spreadsheet to gather as complete a listing of such activities as possible. Please fill in related activities, to the best of your recollection, that you know about or have been involved in.

Broader Impact activities include training of K-12, undergraduate or graduate students as well as professional development of researchers and other information managers and activities that support the growth and improvement of the field as a whole.

SEVRenée F. BrownRemote Data Acquisition Sensor Training Workshop / Methods in Environmental Data AcquisitionThe primary objectives of this course are to provide participants with a comprehensive and affordable introduction to the major aspects of field-based environmental data acquisition with an emphasis on hands-on learning. Using a combination of field demonstrations, lectures, hands-on activities, and discussions, this short-course covers several topics fundamental to the remote acquisition of environmental sensor data, including (1) basic electronics, (2) photovoltaic power for remote instrumentation, (3) TCP/IP networking and Wi-Fi telemetry systems, and (4) sensor theory and Campbell Scientific datalogger wiring and programming. This course was initially made possible through training grant funds from the LTER Network Office in 2012 and 2013. http://sevfs.unm.edu/courses/rda/4 to date, with plans to continue70 total, which include an international contingent of field technicians, graduate and undergraduate students, early-career faculty, project managers, and information managers from a variety of LTER and non-LTER sites.Funding for this training was received from LTER NCO in 2012 & 2013. NSF Proposal funded: The combined efforts of the University of New Mexico and the University of Wisconsin at Madison are to provide data curation and metadata creation support for depositing ecological data into the Environmental Data Initiative data repository for NSF DEB projects, including the LTER Network, LTREB, OBFS, and MSB. The goal of this effort is to ensure the long-term stability and access to data generated by these projects through the EDI Data Repository and broader aggregators, like DataONE. Technical merit of this combined effort is the improvements and features added to PASTA+ software and state-of-the-art methodologies metadata creation and data preservation.
