1/11/2023 9:06:16nick.taylor@ccs.spokane.eduNick Taylor, Instructional DesignerCommunity Colleges of SpokaneI assume so. Faculty seem to do alright with it. Not perfect but it seems to at least work consistently, especially after they fixed the bug where new accounts were being created for faculty when they signed in a certain way. File management is not as straightforward as it could be. I also might point out the more outdated UI or the number of clicks it takes to complete actions. The mobile app is not great... Having a simpler process for students submitting video for assignments via panopto would also be cool. A stronger in browser editor that faculty can use to make cuts and splices, and inserting additional video easier. It's not a very user friendly editor. Better embedded quiz question options (thinking H5P like stuff) would be amazing. When screen recording having a selection of annotation tools would be nice. Admin privileges are really useful when working with faculty and actually is one of the highlights of the platform. I have the ability to do everything I need to for a faculty so that they can be successful. The better quiz questions and more ways to edit a video would be the most important to me.Kaltura could be an option, otherwise maybe we could see what just using zoom storage would look like? At the end of the day we record the majority of our stuff with Zoom and it allows for synchronous sessions so if we already have that maybe we could figure out if hosting from there would be beneficial? The UI is definitely not made for easy hosting though but many already have experience and it has a larger number of recording tools (like annotations and whiteboards). If facutly create an enduring resource they can save the recording and then post it in Canvas directly. Just spitballing.

Faculty: Difficulty to access video folders depending on how they are organized (often a user issue, not necessarily Panopto). Some are also still having issues with ctcLink logins impacting their ability to access older videos recorded originally using the old Canvas login/Panopto not linking to those videos through the embedded Panopto icon in the Canvas rich content editor.
Ability to incorporate quizzes and other forms of assessment, record lectures, and embed directly into Canvas.I don't know if this is a Panopto issue, but seems like the issue cited above re. issues with ctcLink logins should be resolved.

1/24/2023 7:57:20dspiel@columbiabasin.eduAssistant Director EdTechColumbia Basin CollegeWould need much more information in regards to cost. The State has already mandated so many new costs on the college that our budget can't really take this additional cost on.Panopto has worked extremely well for us.- Blur of Instructor Cam
- When in a course and open up folders it shows the current course at the top so you don't have to scroll to find it
- Ability to choose a particular window or section of the screen to record in the application as the web version can do.
- zoom integration into the course
- ease of use that other platforms don't provide
- unlimited storage
- The time in a work day training for a new product.
That we are part of any ongoing product development to offer suggestions as needed.Just as with Zoom, there are many new startups but none mature enough that would offer a good solution to a college without lots of management let alone handling an entire State. The cost of Canvas's tool and for what it offers just to manage video doesn't resolve classroom lecture usage well.

1/24/2023 10:11:56hlovett@everettcc.eduHannah Lovett, Director of Educational TechnologyEverett Community College Maybe. I think we would definitely explore other options. Our faculty have made it clear that Panopto is a little clunky to use but the hardship of changing to a new software may outweigh moving to something better. Support is hard to work with, sometimes slow to respond, and they often don't fully understand our use cases. Panopto's interface isn't intuitive to faculty. Editing, sharing and access is complicated. Phone app is not easy to use or connected with Canvas. Table of contents and auto captions needs improvement. Now we have the improved authentication, but that took forever to get. Better recording management. Also took forever to get cloud recording. Highlighted cursor, being able to add "cards", notes, and annotations with information at intervals during video. Better interface. Easy editing and sharing. We would need to have a software that passes Zoom cloud recordings from Zoom and integrates with caption providers and Canvas. From a faculty members, "The tight integration with Canvas, the auto captioning, the editing capabilities, the reporting of student viewing statistics, the automatic dividing of the videos into sections that students can jump to, the ability to upload other videos, merge videos, and break a long video into shorter videos." "The ability to edit my class recordings before making them available to the class is very important. Being able to manage recordings by sharing the video with both sections that join the same zoom session is necessary." YuJa, Camtasia, Kaltura

2/23/2023 11:56:57jerry.troupe@ccs.spokane.eduJerry Troupe, LMS Admin Community Colleges of SpokaneIt would depend on the costs. 1. Better report creation process. Allow admins to select the fields as opposed to pre-set report formats and allow them to see the report on screen (HTML) and sort based on report fields.
2. Better admin interface.
3. Easier folder management. Allow users to select their default storage folder as opposed to having a folder created automatically when you access the Panopto Recording tab. This adds to video storage overhead as creators copy their videos from class to class rather than creating reference copies. Improve the folder/file management interface to look more like Windows File Manager to make it easier for a user to find and manage their videos.
4. Better file editor - allow creators more latitude in what they can edit and how. Allow audio dubbing from the editor.
5. Separate primary audio and video streams rather than having them combined. This would allow creators to add or update one or the other.
Allow multiple primary video and audio sources.Since most of the more popular video capture applications used in higher ed have similar features, there are none that I can think of. Any RFP should clearly define the parameters of what we want in an application to ensure that only vendors whose applications meet, at a minimum, what we currently have in Panopto participate. Going forward, we do not give up too much, if anything, as instructors appear to be happy with what they have in Panopto.Keeping the current pricing structure! YuJa

I would think losing the State and going to RFP now that there are a few new and hungry competitors they might give and take a bit. 2/23/2023 18:43:08regina.king@centralia.eduRegina Corrigan King, Adjunct InstructorCentralia CollegeABSOLUTELY YES!I use Panapto so much that I've managed to problem solve my way through just about anything which comes up. I don't see the "issue", I find a way through it. When I've really been stuck, I've been able to receive support either from our College eLearning staff or Panapto (via the internet systems) and things are easily resolved. For what I use it for, I have the features which I need in Panopto.Losing Panapto would be a gigantic loss to me as I have videos in all of my classes. I update them as needed and on a regular basis, but I do not re-do them each quarter in every single one of my courses each quarter. Setting up these video offerings takes tremendous time. I use them for all sorts of assignments (my students use it as well to upload student videos which they do on themselves). Panopto is a tremendous resource for my students given how I use this in my classes. They receive lectures, assignment instructions, welcomes, etc. via Panapto videos. They hit a number of my students learning styles. As a business woman, I know it is a great deal to weigh out. However, the loss for students statewide needs to be taken into consideration. Sure, we get another server and system, but what are the costs in time for instructors to update courses (will there be stipends for this?) and what will be the "pay off" to instructors in terms of getting trained on the new system. It is not as "easy" as some may want to believe. For those of us who use this feature, there is tremendous value in it and it enhances our class offerings to the very students with whom the state proports to "serve". What type of "service" is it to take away this feature and require instructors to "pivot"? Has there not been enough asked of instructors in this way over the last three years? For me, there are none at this time. I get it if it needs to occur, but I would appreciate a decent "lead in" on time, because teaching is intense and preparing videos is a gigantic time suck. I want to know that I'm being valued, supported, reimbursed and communicated with regarding any changes and the commitment decisions which I will need to make in order to deal with said possible changes.

I'm not sure what competitive procurement or RFP are, but a feature I really appreciate in Panopto is the automatically generated and editable captions. I also like the options for web cam capture, screen capture only, or both. Arc or Canvas Studio, which I think might be the same thing? The only problem with Canvas Studio is you can't edit (cut out sections of video) after clicking publish. But other than that it is very easy to use and intuitive and has pretty good automatically generated captions.

(For others, better support for colleagues for whom English is not their first language and the CC doesn't pick up non-US accents well)I record every lecture in class and those post immediately after class is over. Students are able to access those videos immediately and it saves me time from explaining what we did in class.no

3/7/2023 9:45:06bzimmers@shoreline.eduBrooke Zimmers, FacultyShoreline CCyesI'd like to be able to edit betterI often have to edit out students. I can typically edit their comments but sometimes there's a frame of them but when I am talking. Because of FERPA I can't have pictures of former students in the videos. I wish I could edit a frame or two..even if it means replacing it with a blank screen so that I can keep the audio but blank the screen. I might be able to do it now but I want to be able to upload tiktoc instagram videos. Maybe I can?I would loose all of my hard work...all of my videos I've made since the pandemic. It would be devastating. Unless there is a way to transfer those videos to whatever new service there is...and then I would assume there would be additional glitches in the playback system. Without access to the videos you'd be adding years worth of work to my already overburdened workload. Plus then I have to learn a whole new system. Please, stop messing around with our life's work and time and invest in systems that we've been using--make them better don't make us learn a new system and lose our work. see above.

None that I can think of. I like how Panopto currently integrates with Zoom. An alternative platform would ideally do this too. None that I can think of. No.

I want to find it so that I can look at the statistics to check which students are watching the videos. Is there an easy way to check this?see above, an easy way to check who is watching the videosintegration into Canvas, subtitlesan easy way to monitor student engagement, participationI am not familiar with any other platform besides YouTube. This works as well, but I like Panopto

Not sure ... this is above my pay grade
I routinely use it to embed video announcement and lectures into my Canvas courses. Has been great.
I have hundreds of videos uploaded to Panopto for my online classes. If it goes away it will be very time consuming for me to download/re-upload to a new service.
Haven't had any issues with it
I also have a Vimeo Pro account which I use to upload videos that are used with multiple classes. Vimeo Pro now has auto-generated closed captioning which was my original reason for starting to use Panopto.

Yes, I teach public speaking online and it works quite well for my students so I would hope the college sticks with it
Neither I nor my students have any issues that need to be resolved. It can be a bit much for students to navigate at first and I dislike that it isn't turned on with an assignments folder by default but none of that is that much of a problem. It is by far the best way I have found for students to submit speech videos in online classes with other country restrictions to youtube and google drive.
The navigation is hard for students to figure out and there isn't a folder for assignments set up by default.
As long as there is something to replace it that is easily connected to canvas and can be integrated into the discussion posting we'll figure it out I suppose.
