The second half of Saiyuki Reload Gunlock is somewhat canonical and has mixed reactions from the fanbase. Hazel's appearance started the Even a Worm arc, however the anime and manga differ dramatically. I would highly recommend reading Saiyuki Reload Vol 4 and onwards at the very least to see Minekura's true vision for this arc.
