1Parking Official (mainly from 7:00 to 9:00 on Race Day)

They will direct and supervise the alignment of cars in the front lot so that the maximum use of that space is realized. Needed: 2 to 3 persons. Highest demand will be early in the day. No skiing knowledge required.

2Post Race Water and Pretzel and Bib Collection

As the racers finish each heat they need to be encouraged to keep up their fluid intake as they generally do not realize that they are losing almost as much water in the winter as they do in the summer. There will be warm water in large coolers and Styrofoam cups to hand to each racer. Please make sure they drink it. Needed: two persons at all times so a total of anywhere from 4 to 6. The ability to have gentle but firm persuasion. No skiing knowledge required.

Each racer gets a chocolate dipped pretzel that is strung on a ribbon as a participation award. There will be a pop up shelter through which each racer must ski to leave the course area. You will hang the pretzel around each racer’s neck ( their hands are busy with their poles ) at the end of the second race as some of the kids will be eliminated at this point

3Refreshments

Menu of hot soup, snacks, and warm drinks will be available from 9am through to 2.00pm. These volunteers will be responsible for making menu/price posters to advertise around the site during the day of the race, serve the refreshments, collect payment, and do light clean up of the tables. Three to four persons at any one time; Basic math skills far more important than any skiing knowledge! Willingness to clear tables, wipe counters and wash dishes an asset… no experience required!

4Course Controllers and Marshalls (required all day on race day)

Combined duties of Course Control and Marshaling:

Marshall:  Insures spectators and athletes not participating in current race stay off the course.  Insures that anyone crossing the course does so when no skiers are present.  Insures all skiers are off course except skiers in current race/heat when the course is closed.

Course Contol:  Identify and report  any unsafe conditions on course.  Makes minor repairs to course.  Insures course markers are in correct location and relocates vee-boards when directed to suit race category.

Course Control:  Observes athletes and reports and records bib numbers of  athletes leaving course. (these athletes will be marked as DNF).  Athletes may go off course and reenter at same location.

Several different tasks in this area that range from making sure that all the racers get to the start line together in the posted combination, right bib is on the right race. You will help with the timing and the posting of results.

A minimum of 5 Start Crew members are required at the Start Line to ensure the the starts takes place in accordance with the rules and at the time specified by the Race Start List. 1StarterWhen not using an automated Start Clock, starts each pair of racers per interval with strong a confident presence and a strong steady voice saying 5 seconds prior to each interval start "Ready"; saying at 3 seconds prior "Set" and saying "Go" at the posted start time. For Interval Starts the racers have a 3 second window prior to the start time when they can legally go. Starts sprint heats with a strong confident presence and a strong steady voice and an Air Horn. 3Start Line Wranglers
(Require a MINIMUM of 2 persons)		Use Start List and Megaphone to call racers to the Start Line area to ensure interval start order is correct. The Start Line wranglers will ensure that the racers are lined up in the correct order for Interval Starts or lined together in their heats for Sprint Heats and are waiting in the corral near the start line about 4-5 minutes before their actual race start times. With a limited time between the start of each race being on time is critical. Needed: 4-6 persons with a Megaphone to allow for rotation.1.Start List /

4Summit System Bib Entry & Plunger Operator Stands next to the Assistant Starter, next to the Start Line. FOR EACH INTERVAL posts ONE of the two bib #s starting and THEN presses the Summit System plunger when the skiers toe crosses the Start Line, ONLY if the start is within 3 seconds of the interval start time. This "plunge" is then associated with the bib post and is electronically linked to the bibs of both the skiers starting at that interval.1.Summit System timer with plunger attached;

A minimum of 6 Finish Line Crew members are required at the Finish Line. They are considered Finish Line officials. They record and calculate Skiers' times in the qualifier / prologue race and record the order of finishers in sprint heats. Some Finish Line jobs vary slightly depending on whether the race is the prologue (interval start) or the sprint heats (wave start):5-Start Lists;

8White Board Recorder
(Untimed Sprint Heats only)		Writes the bib#s of heat winners to the appropriate slots on the appropriate Heats Advancement Board. Uses the Prologue results to determine the fastest 'Lucky Losers" who advance to the next round of heats.1.Several black grease pencils (China markers);
2. A clip board; and
3.A clean soft cloth as an "eraser".

9Runner
(Untimed Sprint Heats only)		Brings heat results from Finish Line Referee to the Sprint Advancement Board Recorder.Good legs & the ability to move quickly on snow.

8Bib Distribution and Collection (7:00 am to 11: 30 am Race Day)

Three groups of people needed under this heading. First group must be on site at 7.30am to organize bibs into neat piles of consecutive numbers and give them out to the correct racer as they present themselves to the registration table starting at 7.30 through to 8.30am. The next couple of people will collect bibs from the eliminated racers at the end of the second race and will be stationed in the same pop up shelter beside the pretzel presenters. The third group will collect the remaining bibs from the racers as they are eliminated through the potential quarter finals and semis and the final. They will reorganize the bibs into consecutive numbers ensuring that none are lost.
