Hello and thank you for visiting our Maine Racial Justice Resource Guide!

We have compiled these resources quickly over a few days, but with intention and care. We know so many people in Maine want to support racial justice work and educate themselves further, but may be confused, overwhelmed, or simply don’t know where to start right now. Our work is a direct response to those feelings and an effort to pull resources to a centralized location.

This document is focused primarily on the resources, organizations, and people we have here in Maine. We are Portland-based, so we must acknowledge that there is a slight bias toward Southern Maine in this content.

These lists are not comprehensive. We’re working quickly to respond to the needs of our community, so we certainly have missed information and made mistakes.

We want this to be a living document. We will keep adding information that we missed and make corrections as necessary. This is not a one-stop shop! Please continue to do your own research beyond what you find here. We want this to be a jumping-off point for deeper connection and learning. To that end, please feel free to share this document with all (especially those struggling to engage meaningfully in this time).

Each tab has notes specific to that section to give context to the information and our process. We have tried to give credit to websites and creators that have already put together great resources, so we’ve linked to those larger lists instead of copying their information and presenting it as our own.

After much conversation, we are using the term POC (rather than black) for most of the listings in this document. We thought it might be reductive for folks with mixed identity to list them as exclusively black and we certainly don’t want to act as gatekeepers for what racial background is enough to warrant being titled as black on any list. This was a tough conversation and we would love to hear your input if you have thoughts.

If you would like to contribute additional information and resources or catch an edit that needs to be made, please contact us at: portlandblmresources@gmail.com

Much love and be well, y'all.
