Patronage estimates are derived from myki ticketing data and factored up to account for the transaction rate. The transaction rate is determined by survey. The survey is designed to provide a precise measure of patronage at the modal level and precision is decreased for patronage estimates at the stop level.

Due to the low transaction rate for tram, particularly within the Melbourne Free Tram Zone, and other issues with accurate stop identification, a modelling approach has been used to create a complete picture of tram stop usage. The precision of this dataset is assessed as low.

Changes to tram stops or stop location during the year may result in duplicate records for the same stops or patronage for a portion of the year only.
