CYBERPUNK 2077 - E3 2019 PRIVATE DEMO NOTES
2
CDPR hosted an appointment-only one-hour gameplay demo at E3. They did this last year and released the same footage about two months later on their YouTube so hopefully they do the same thing again. Until then, here are my notes from the presentation.

The game was played live by one of the devs on an Xbox controller (https://twitter.com/CyberpunkGame/status/1139409722686099457).

Misc Notes
4
Character Customization
5
Some options around hair, eye, face wiring, but more on launch
Didn't specify what "more" meant; there were like 6-8 tiles for hair color, eye color, skin color, + other options
6
Three character backgrounds/classes: Nomad, Street Kid, and Corporate
7
Different dialogue options available per class
8
Different base stats: body, intelligence, reflexes, etc.
Looked like max of +6 points at start but we saw up to +9 later in the demo. There were 6-8 categories.
9
Clothing items have stats
10
"Style is very important in our game"
11
12
World-Building & Lore
13
Six major districts
14
Pacifica was focus of this demo
15
Designed for rich people but some crisis happened and the investors pulled money, abandoned construction
16
Pacifica is dominated by the Voodoo Boys gang
17
Meat is illegal in Night city
18
Mega-corps outlawed meat to sell fake meat
19
NPCs have lives, one bought pizza and was carrying it around, started eating
20
21
Gangs
22
Voodoo Boys
23
Haitian gang, most/all spoke Haitian Creole and some English
24
Voodoo Boys have a good Rep with the citizens in Pacifica
25
Animals
26
Steroid-abusers (called "Juice"), bodybuilders
27
Super strong, speed-enhancing cyberware, teleport/dash/Tracer ability
28
Maelstrom and Scavenger gangs showcased in previous videos
29
30
RPG Elements
31
Skill tree: blades, rifles, handguns, hacking, melee, assassin, engineering, etc
32
Skill-locked dialogue optionsSeparate from the class/background dialogue options
33
Skill points directly affect gameplay
34
Strength: Force open doors, tear apart turrets
35
Int: Hack doors, hack turret AI to attack others
36
Can play entire game non-lethally
37
Missions
38
Given a mission approach recommendation, can choose to ignore it
39
Guns blazing vs stealth - player decides
40
Rep per area, can unlock more/better items at vendors
41
42
Abilities & Misc Gameplay
43
Auto-translating body modSubtitles appeared above the NPC's head in native language, automatically 'flipped' to English
44
First and third person drivingVehicle looked like it had real weight to it but would have to play to know for sure
45
"Clear Shelf" action
46
Hacking
47
Hacking minigame(s)
Showed one but I'm pretty sure he said there were different ones; this one also had bonus objectives
48
Buy and upload virus to turn off cameras
49
Hack bench press to crush user ("Keanu joked about always having a spotter")
50
Hack one gang member to access their private network and hack others in gang
51
Hack enemy cyberware, make him pull his own grenade or shoot self
52
Boss Fight
53
Weak spots on boss enemies to force them to lose superhuman strength/speed
Boss seemed super hard to kill without going for the weak spot first
54
If you get knocked down, the enemy can hack you and your ally "defends" you against the hack, which puts a time limit on the fight.
55
NPCs, have location damage - will limp if shot in leg or hold arm if shot in arm
56
No loading screens??? Unless you opt to fast travelI'll believe it when I see it.
57
58
Items
59
"Nanowire" - Laser garrote / whip to cut off limbs
60
Combat boost inhaler
61
62
Misc Thoughts
63
Lighting looks really great
64
NPC clothing moves pretty naturally
65
NPCs in the city didn't look like they were all copy-pasted
66
Saw some weird shadow aliasing and a shadow disappeared at one pointKeeping in mind that the game isn't finished and still has a year of polish to get applied, these are pretty minor complaints but I felt like I had to be fair and say at least one negative thing because everything else is nothing but hype. D:
67
Noticed debris from an explosion disappearing unnaturally at one point, but the debris/destruction from one area also persisted even after we left that area and returned
68
69
BELOW THIS LINE ARE POTENTIAL STORY SPOILERS.
70
71
72
73
THEY MAY REVEAL THIS INFO BEFORE THE GAME RELEASE OR IT MIGHT ALREADY BE IN OTHER ARTICLES BUT IT SEEMED LIKE PRETTY IMPORTANT STORY INFO AND I DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO GET MAD AT ME.
74
75
76
77
Potential Story Spoilers
78
Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves)Wasn't clear if he's a physical character at any point in the game, possibly he was "alive" and then somehow got trapped in cyberspace? Wasn't clear if he was actually dead or just digital for the time being. Possibly a story mission to release him from his digital form?

Not persistent, he comes and goes.
79
Actually a ghost AI, helping/annoying you
80
Jackass character
81
Can talk directly to Johnny Silverhand in dialogue options
82
Can entire "The Cyberspace" data world, very Matrix-esque
83
People are trying to achieve immortality by uploading their consciousness to The Cyberspace
84
They called it going "beyond the Black Wall"
85
No one has ever come back ("until her..." dun dun dun!)
