Elevator Pitch:Multiplayer giant monsters. And the poor city and its population who don't realize they're the playing pieces.
5
6
Why?Most games with physics only have them as incidental physics:
7
- Ragdolls of bodies, or debris that you can walk through but not pick up to do things
8
- Some let you pick up debris to toss, but it's more effective to use your gun or punch with fists
9
- CPU intensive
10
- Rarely incorporated as a required part of the gameplay
11
- Hard to develop and test for all instances
12
13
14
So what *would* you do with physics-based gameplay?
15
- Toss shit around. And in some cases, literally.
16
- Use a radio antenna or I-beam as a spear
17
- Spear opponent against the wall for easier pummeling
18
- Any debris, or even each other!
19
- Teammates can do combo attacks.<- not a lot of MP games make use of this feature
20
- Taunt: poo and toss it at the enemy. Temporarily blinds and alerts others due to smell. But used in a lot of giant monster movies
21
- Similar to the boomer's bile attack from L4Di.e. TF2 heavy+medic
22
- Destroy buildingsWhat if there was a heavy+scout option, pick up and toss for more air time for a jump?
23
- Time it so it falls on an enemyGrapple and hold opponent while teammate pummels him.
24
- Also creates or reduces cover as a tactical elementMagicka combo beam attacks for more power
25
- Hide in the shell of a building
26
- Block off some routes, or open others
27
- Deflect/Rebound effects too, allow players to do bank shots
28
29
30
You don't get any fancy guns - you ARE the weapon, so make use of the environment!
31
32
33
Multiplayer Centric:
34
- Most giant monster games in the past have been on the consoles
35
- Thus usually limited to 1v1 split screen (Godzilla, War of Monsters)
36
- or same screen (Rampage, NeoGeo's King of the Monsters)
37
- And small maps due to RAM limitations and only deathmatch vs. mode
38
39
- Want full network support, so people can get full view of their screen
40
- Also expand the player count from 2 to 16+
41
- Not tether the players into the same area due to camera and RAM limitations from one local screen
42
- Have a big city to explore with varied terrain and elevations
43
- Still support 2-4 player split screen if this ends up on the consoles as a XBL/PSN game
44
45
- Factor in ranked games so noobs won't get into unfair fights against expert players
46
47
- Level up RPG system
48
- Players can customize their monster to compliment their playing style
49
- Some abilities can be leveled up within a map
50
- But gets reset between maps
51
- Also have additional bonuses to abilities, which persist between games
52
- Creates a sense of ownership and investment in the monster
53
54
- Customize how the monster looks
55
- sell skin slots for painting
56
- Allow for players to sell skin paint jobs to each other
57
- Would require both players to have a skin slot (so $ right off the bat)
58
- Take a % cut of course
59
- Also sell pre-made skin paintjobs
60
- Which players can use to base their other designs off of
61
- Prefer to avoid too much stat customization
62
- avoid exploits like body sizes for speed
63
- yes, expect someone will eventually make a giant pink Godzilla
64
- Need a moderation system for skin submissions
65
- Also delay it, so people might be tempted to have multiple slots
66
- Tribunal, allow other players to judge the skin to spread the work?
67
- Prevents trolls from making offensive images via the skin
68
- Alternatively, skin can be viewed locally immediately, submitted for sharing to others
69
- Would be nice: allow for downloading of a grayscale or UV template for the artist to paint in Photoshop, Sketchbook, etc., then import the texture file
70
- However this means they could by-pass the integrated selling system
71
- Possible workarounds - lock or discount the community skin slot, offer pre-mades for less $, total customization for more $
72
- Appeal to artists who don't want their skin to be spread around without $
73
74
75
76
- Drop in and match style gameplay
77
- With a tournament mode, at least allow players to goof off while waiting (like in TF2).
78
- Really dislike the waiting that goes on with match oriented games like LoL.
79
80
81
82
Guilty Pleasure Goals:
83
- Om nom nom nomnomnomnomnom!
84
- Soccer win and seeing a Godzilla critter do a hump the air victory dance
85
- PET'EM protesters that you can eat - "People for the Ethical Treatment of Enormous Monsters"
86
- Cross promotion, import characters from other games (i.e. if you own the game on Steam):Obviously not for the initial development, and would have to work out a license
87
- HL2: Dogagreement with their owners if the game goes officially commercial
88
- TF2: Saxton Hale (for balance, say the radation from the monsters is his kryptonite)
89
- Sam and Max: The Devil's Playground: Cthulhu Maxhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=VVCocJhH1HI#t=24s
90
- Psychonauts: Gogglor!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMs5-6haCZ4
