Color Coding
3
Blue cells are constant and should not be modified
4
Purple cells contain performance measurements or projections and should be filled in by the benchmarker.
5
Light / Dark cells are used to visually delineate workflows. They have not bearing on the instructions.
6
7
Steps
8
1Enter the system description into the purple cells at B20:D23
9
This spreadsheet has been constructed to accommotate up to 3 node types.
10
If additional node types are proposed, then contact NERSC for an appropriately modified spreadsheet.
11
12
2Enter performance predictions into the purple cells located at D28:F39
13
14
15
3All other cells are either a) constant, or b) computed automatically.
16
17
4
The Workflow SSI value can be found in cell N28

Column Descriptions
42
Column HeaderSymbolDescription
43
Node Type:none
Type of node to be used by the application.
44
Nodes Per Job:n
Number of nodes (of the selected Node Type) to be used by the application.
45
Benchmark Time :
t
Time (or time-like figure of merit) to complete the benchmark
46
Allocation Factor:f
Fraction of nodes (of the selected Node Type) to be allocated to the application. Evenly distributed among applications using this node type. ( If p applications share Node-Type-1, then all those applications have f=1.0/p )
47
Count of Node Type:N
Number nodes of the application's selected Node Type in the proposed system. Found in the Target System Description.
48
Application Throughput:A
Rate of application completion when running multiple copies of the application on the allocated fraction of the selected node type. A = ( f * N / n ) / t
49
Workflow Throughput:W
Rate of workflow completion. Harmonic mean of of the throughput of component applications, divided by the number of component applications.
50
Capability Factor:c
Ratio of operations performed by the target workflow problem and the reference workflow problem.
51
Reference Workflow Throughput (W_ref):W_ref
Rate of completing the reference workflows on the reference system (Perlmutter). Found on the "Perlmutter Reference" Tab
52
Relative Workflow Throughput:none
Improvement of the workflow throughput on the target system, relative to the reference system := c * W / Wref
53
Workflow SSI:none
Geometric mean of relative workflow throughput
