1) Review Map+Zones tab to see which blocks map to which zones and which zones may be easy for you to petition in.
6
2) On Volunteer Signup tab, scroll down to those zones. For any blocks that are Unassigned, change that to your name to indicate you're taking responsibility for petitioning there. Also change status to Assigned, and set the Target Date to the date you expect to complete the petitioning for that block (could be different dates for different blocks you're assigning yourself).
7
3) After you complete a day of petitioning, update the status to Complete for any blocks that you've finished, along with the Completion Date. You don't have to have actually spoken to everyone on the block but you should knock on every door in a sincere attempt to reach each household.
8
-- Bring the talking points found in the PDF at the top with you to reference as to the benefits of the DFA.
9
-- It's fine if someone doesn't want to sign the petition or even if they're not in favor of the DFA. Remember that we're simply gathering sentiment in the neighborhood, not necessarily trying to change anyone's stance if they aren't interested in that message. Any specific areas that are opposed to the DFA would be helpful information to collect stats on (e.g. 1200 W Main had 5 houses that weren't against the DFA). This can be captured in the Comments column or emailing info@humboldtparkdogpark.org if easier.
10
-- Petitioner name and address must be printed legibly in order for them to count. Please remind people of this when giving them the form, and review completed petitions to validate. If necessary, draw a single line through that row and ask the person to complete a new row.
11
-- Only one petitioner per household will be counted by the city, but the more the merrier on the forms!
12
-- Completed forms should be scanned in (you can use your phone camera) and emailed to info@humboldtparkdogpark.org AND retained in paper form. We'll connect with you to pick up the original form (the city will require originals).
13
-- If you run into any problems on a particular block, e.g. construction prevents you from accessing the block (would be pretty unusual), update the status to Issue with a Comment as to the problem. Likewise if the block is actually commercial, update the status to NA-Nonresidential and skip it.

While it may seem like overkill to be this prescriptive about our petitioning process, we really appreciate your help in collecting all this data the way we're laying out here. We want to be sure we have solid evidence to refer back to in case anyone should challenge the validity of this critical petitioning step. Thank you for all your help!!
