COVID-19 Response Plan
Process for monitoring students and staff for symptoms, history of exposure and absenteeism

Staff and students will be educated on the signs and symptoms of COVID-19.

Staff and students will stay home when experiencing new or worsening symptoms according to the CDC guidelines (for example: temperature over 100.4, shortness of breath, cough, loss of taste or smell) and notify the appropriate District contact.

Students and staff will notify their Building Principal who will then notify the COVID-19 Local Public Health Liaison if they have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or have been identified as a close contact by Public Health.

Employees will be required to take their temperature at home and complete a health screening assessment each morning prior to entering any school building.

Students exhibiting signs of COVID-19 while at school will be isolated in the designated area.

Employees members exibiting signs of COVID-19 will be sent home and directed to contact their healthcare provider.

Process to identify and protect children and staff at higher risk with an opportunity for continued distance learning and teaching

Grand Forks Public Schools will provide 1:1 technology for students K-12. Kindergarten-2nd grade will receive iPads, and 3rd-12th grade students will have Chromebooks.

The primary educational focus for the first weeks of school is to build strong relationships with students (social-emotional learning) and educate students how to learn remotely.

Grand Forks Public Schools will support families who do not have internet access to ensure access

Sharing of classroom resouces and tools eliminated as much as possible. There will be no classroom sharing of school supplies.

A distance learning plan is available so students / families with serious medical conditions have an opportunity to learn remotely.

Process to rapidly notify parents and staff of exposures in the school setting

Families and employees will be notified using our mass communications system, which has the capability to send phone calls, emails, SMS/text messages, etc.

Positive or Close ContactProcess for isolation and quarantine when a staff member, student, or visitor becomes sick or demonstrates a history of exposure

Any employee member who becomes sick or demonstrates symptoms of COVID-19 will be immediately sent home and directed to contact their healthcare provider.

Employee duties will be covered by other staff withing the building until a substitute or available colleague can be located.

Any student who becomes sick or demonstrates symptoms of COVID-19 will be walked to the designated isolation room, their temperature will be taken, and they will be required to wear a mask.

Families will be contacted and required to pick their student up within a TBD specified amount of time.

Guidelines when an isolated or quarantined staff member may return to school

An employee member who has been tested postitive for COVID-19 may return to work after 10 days after symptoms first appeared and 24 hours with no fever (without-fever reducing medicine), and symptoms have improved or per medical provider guidance.

Distance learning can occur for any student that is on quarantine

Communication and Training
Train all faculty and staff on the implementation of the Health and Safety Plan

The health and safety plan was distributed to employees during the 2020-2021 Back-to-School workshop, as well as available on our employee intranet.

Information for employees beginning after the start of the school year are provided with information at the building-level.

Train all faculty and staff on appropriate use and wearing of facial coverings

Plan on ensuring ongoing communcation with families around the elements of the local Health and Safety Plan, including ways that families can practice safe hygiene in the home.

The health and safety plan was added to the GFPS COVID-19 webpage, which is in the top toolbar of the district/all school websites.

Information regarding signs and symptoms of COVID-19, hand hygiene, face coverings, preventing the spread and others is available on the district website, social media, emails, and newsletters.

Hygiene & Cleaning
Facial coverings (masks) will be worn by staff and students

All students enrolled at GFPS will be required to wear a face covering while on the bus and while transitioning in or out of the building

Face coverings will be required at all times even when physical distancing can be maintained.

Face coverings may be worn at other times as deemed necessary for the safety of employees and students

All essential visitors who have access to the school buildings will be required to wear a face covering

Guidelines for hygiene practices for students and staff which includes the manner and frequency of hand-washing and other best practices

Students are educated through visual and video instruction.

Hand sanitizer is located in every classroom, entry door, and throughout each building.

Classrooms equipped with a sink have adequate amounts of hand soap and towels, as well as tissues and disinfectant wipes

Students and employees wash their hands or use hand sanitizer every time they enter or exit a room.

Physical DistancingProtocols for classroom/learning space occupancy that allow for separation among students and staff throughout the day to maximum extent feasible.

Each classroom was measured for square footage and two options have been calculated to provide appropriate spacing between students.

Protocols for the use of cafeterias, common areas and other congregate settings for students, faculty and staff

Lunch times are staggered and tables will have designated seating to maintain social distancing.

Recess times is staggered. Schedule modifications were made to limit the number of students utilizing space and equipment used at one time

Playground equipment is used by one class at a time. Students sanitize their hands before and after using playground equipment

Cohorts/Pods of students are kept together as much as possible. When students need to mix, masks will be required.

Protocols for limiting the sharing of materials among students to the maximum amont feasible

Mass notification was sent to administrators, teachers, families regarding labeling of school supplies and a reminder that there will be no sharing of materials. This was also added to all digital school supply lists.

Books, toys, teaching tools, and other shared resources will be quarantined for a minimum of 24 hours between use.
