Jack's sample calculationsYellow cells show estimates that appear suspiciously higher or lower than others. As we know, the 2021 CT DEEP MSW data estimates are not fully reliable, due to the decentralized system of private trash and recycling haulers going to different transfer stations, and the large statewide quantities that cannot be traced back to specific towns.

Data provided by Brennan Toman, Office of Policy & Planning, CT DEEP, March 2023
4
Notes from DEEPAll data has been rounded to the nearest ton. Totals do not include any waste generated out of state. All data is filtered to provide only MSW. All measurements were taken on different days and with different equipment. Collected material may not balance with marketed and residual material.
5
The last two Out Of State (OOS) tabs were sent separately and show waste sent directly out of state, but Town Not Specified in the next-to-last tab.

Notes from Jack Dougherty, Trinity CollegeEstimates by town are based on best available data provided by haulers and facilities. In some cases, towns are unidentified, and in practice some haulers may mix MSW from neighboring towns.
9
2021 was most recent full-year available, so this includes Hartford MIRA RRF before closed July 2022

14
RRF(9) "Resources recovery facility" means a facility that combusts municipal solid waste to generate electricity; 22a-207

Tab Name Tab Description
18
MSW Received at RRFsMSW reported by each RRF facility received by town. 'Town not selected' may be aggregated material from transfer stations or haulers who serve multiple towns. Note that this does not include any MSW that was directly shipped out of state from haulers or transfer stations.
19
Received @ Recycling FacilitiesMSW recycling reported received by each facility by town. 'UNIDENTIFIED - CONN' may be aggregated material from transfer stations or haulers who serve multiple towns. Note that some towns will be almost fully represented under this description. This data does not include recycling that was collected by haulers or transfer stations and sent directly to facilities out of state.
20
Marketed from Recycling FacRecyclables that were sorted and sold to end users. These cannot be sorted by town because they are mixed and resorted. Note that some material gets marketed from one CT recycling facility to another, and is therefore double-counted. I have not removed these entries.
21
Residuals from Recycling FacContamination and non-marketable material from recycling facilities that does not get recycled and is sent for disposal.
22
Residuals from RRFMetal recovered and non-processible waste from RRFs sent to scrap metal facilities or to disposal.
23
METAL - POST-COMB= Metal recovered post-combustion
24
METAL - PRE- COMB= Metal recovered pre-combustion
