6/9/2016 15:51:33For the most part a fun section with only a few bad areas. After you cross under the 15 do not try and short cut across the red dirt section. It is very deep soft red sand. Don't ask how I know. Also just after you pass the Kern River Pipeline Rd you will come to a turn in the trail that goes down a steep long drop off. I have pictures if you want to look at it. Again Big Bikes be careful. I made it fine but had to go real slow. After that there are a few sandy sections to watch out for but not bad. We also ran into the fence being locked just before Glendale Blvd and had to go around to the left over a small hill. Sandy area be careful. Crash_Man

7/16/2018 17:22:01I’m not usually a fan of the road right next to the highway, but in this case the abandoned old US 91 is not to be missed! Surreal drive down an old highway that is being reclaimed by the desert. Riverside Ghost town before Moapa.

A section of the abandoned highway goes along a hillside as it descends into the riverbed. Much of the roadway is getting washed out and another rain season or two will likely make it impassable for at least 4x4 vehicles but bikes not long after.

West to East. 2 loaded DRZ 400s and a loaded KLR 650. This is a great ride but be warned, The start from the Chevron DOES NOT WORK!!! You have to travel farther away from Vegas to enter the wildlife refuge.
Once in the refuge this is an easy road with great views and elevation changes all the way to where it joins the green route then it is hardball roads to Glendale.
From Glendale to Mesquite is only 30 miles but we had some trouble getting over some of the sandy hills outside of Glendale.
We backtracked and jumped on the highway a few miles til the trail crosses it and the “old highway” you ride on is super cool all the way to Mesquite. Sep 2018.
If you follow this route from the Chevron you not only cannot get on the initial trail due to Indians reservation fencing. But when you get around the Indian reservation fencing you will travel a few miles and run into National Wildlife Refuge “No Vehicular traffic” locked gates. You have to go even farther north to get into the wildlife refuge. Do it!! It’s a great ride. Sep 2018.
