https://www.nature.org/en-us/what-we-do/our-priorities/provide-food-and-water-sustainably/food-and-water-stories/north-star-shrimp/
Through the North Star Shrimp Initiative, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is working directly with farmers, feed producers, distributors, retailers, policymakers and financial institutions to build a stronger, more sustainable shrimp industry. It is built on a successful pilot which reduced carbon emissions and is now being scaled up in Ecuador and Thailand. It's approach is tailored to each geography, accounting for local environmental priorities, the industry’s growth trajectory, social and economic concerns and existing regulatory frameworks. Interventions include one or more of the following - 1) Reducing On-Farm emissions, 2) Improving Shrimp Feed, and 3) Investing in Mangrove Restoration.

Utilising one percent of the return of the shrimp sold, the North Star Shrimp Initiative invests in mangrove restoration, and helps create local jobs in conservation. The initiative takes advantage of regulations that allow community stewardship of mangrove areas, with the investment providing the financial support.
