BASIC DEFINITIONS
11
Decision Quality (DQ) -
How strongly a game was decided For/Against a team, with 0 meaning a very neutral outcome & higher-magnitude values being more certain.
[DQ = Sqrt of score spread. For each period of OT, divide result by 2.]
12
Schedule Dominance (SD) -
How well a team performed directly against all their opponents. Affected mostly by Wins/Losses (pos./neg.), then by score differentials.
[SD = Season DQ average]
13
Comparative Quality (CQ) -
How a team performed against their opponent vs how well others performed against that opponent.
[CQ = DQ + oppSD]
14
Comparative Dominance (CD) -
How well a team performed against all their opponents, compared to all of those opponents' other opponents, on average.
[CD = Season CQ Average]
15
Hierarchial Quality (HQ) -
Signals quality of opponent by looking at other coutcomes for opponent, opponents' opponents, opponents' opponents' opponents, etc.
[HQ = (HQ0 + 2HQ1 + 4HQ2 + 8HQ3 + 16HQ4 + 32HQ5)/6]
16
Hierarchial Dominance (HD) -
Aggregate value of all opponents' quality (i.e. schedule difficulty, quality wins, bad losses).
[HD = Season HQ Average]
17

Performance Quality (PQ) -
How much a single game outcome contributed to overall season-dominance, all things considered.
[PQ = 1/6DQ + 1/3CQ + 1/2HQ]
18
OVERALL DOMINANCE (OD) -
[(1/6)SD + (1/3)CD + (1/2)HD = OD]
OR
[OD = Season PQ Average*]
*Late-season 'bid' games (any rewarded or stakes game - i.e. bowl or playoff) have a weight of 2 when won, 1 when lost.
19
HIERANK POWER -
0-100 Rating, indexed using Overall Dominance, marking 50 Power at 0 OD (simply meaning the most neutral/average/median team), pinning 0 or 100 to the most-extreme positive or negative dominance value, and scaling both sides equally from there (so there likely won't be a zero AND a 100).

HIERANK POWER is Hierank's primary output value.
20
HIERANK -
Ranking, based on Hierank Power, for any given team.
21
VOLATILITY -
0-100 Rating, corresponding to how inconsistent a team can perform (higher Volatility = less consistent) - up or down - from their average Power state.
22
NORMAL POWER -
Range of Power that a team is likely to exhibit in any given performance, considering their Hierank Power & Volatility
23
*All calculations are done with numbers that have zero(0) as the center, and +/- representing Positive/Negative outcomes at varying extremes.
**After all calculations are made, Rating Values are indexed 0-100 with 50 at zero.
