You can drop in and out of the class as she moves through the head-shoulders-arms/hands/fingers-chest-hips movements…or you can sample the entire hour. The idea of this performance is representing the importance of an art scene in Atlantic City.
As a person who grow up in a city with a very big cultural scene I understand how important it is for every child and adult to be surrounded with art. Growing up my parents had a horrible marriage, my country is pretty poor and I am a war child so with all this said you understand how my surroundings affected my childhood.
What if I didn’t have my dancing?
This question always goes through my head, wondering if I didn’t have that outlet where would I have ended up. Being part of the art scene saved my life and it definitely helped me to escape reality and forget about my problems even if it was just for a little bit.
It gives me the chance to embrace other cultures, to learn and educate myself and most importantly it give me the chance to meet wonderful people/friends from all around the world.
This is an excerpt from my seminar paper, subject -Theory of Performance I hope this will help you understand even better what art means to me!
A place where the magic happens, the space where the performer is far away from reality, away from her/his problems, away from everyday life and free from monotony. Where each individual artist no matter if she/he is actor, dancer, musician… has the opportunity to convey the magic of art to those who don’t have the privilege to be a part of this world. The space between the performer and audience, the distance separating these two worlds, distance maybe too small for someone but significant for the artist because that is the space that gives him the power to make changes, to express and create, to open new doors, to expand the horizons and break the shackles of limitations.
Art is the real air to the artist.
When I moved here in 2014 i was so shocked at how much children were deprived from Art around here. For me just living here for one year I was totally depleted from Art and I felt desperate, and that’s when this idea was born.
My imagination for this multimedia project is to collect artists from all branches of art like dancers, painters, musicians, photographers, street artists… with a purpose to explain how art helped them and changed their lives.
Like I mentioned earlier to show the importance/ the need for an Art scene in Atlantic City.
We can change lives even if it’s one life at a time.
