2If Plan 23 is closed loop without connecting to discharge, how will this circuit get fluid for circulation for 1st time. How liquid enters the plan 23 circuit if it not connected with dischargeAnonymous AttendeeThe pump should be primed before use. This will fill the seal chamber.
9
3How seal leakage/failure is detucted in case of Plan 54.? There are no pressure indicator or level indicatorAnonymous AttendeeThere is a lot of instrumentation on a Plan 54. Each line to and from each pump will need instrumentation, each pump will need instrumentation.
10
4Is there a good resource avaliable to see pumped process material and barrier liquid compatability?Anonymous AttendeeWhen the Powerpoint went down on us I was about to show you a useful resource from John Crane on barrier fluids.
Here is the link

12
6Can we get this presentation?Sanjay ShahYes all attendees will get a copy of the video and of the slideshow in the next few days
13
7when to select back to face type seal arrangement?Ashutoshkumar DubeyBack to Back arrangement is often used in dual pressurised seals instead of the In-line configuration. I am not aware of any particular advantage of the one over the other.
14
8Hello my question go to the seal planJavier Hidalgo
15
9What is the difference between barrier and buffer terminology and how these are related to tandem and double seal arrangement?Raheel SultanI use the two terms interchangeably. This is actually incorrect of me. Barrier Fluid is for a pressurised system (Plan 53) , Buffer fluid is for an unpressurised system (Plan 52)
16
10I can still hear youJeff CherwinkaPhew!
17
11maybe you have more information about this systems?Javier Hidalgo Pressurised systems can be either back to back or Tandem (in-line) configuration. I am not aware of any particular advantage of the one over the other.
18
12When do you use a back to back arrangement vs tandem arrangement?Anonymous Attendee
19
13Thanks for answering both my queries.Anonymous Attendee
20
14When to use face to face and back to back arrangement used in dual seal?Anonymous Attendee
21
15Sir, can we us one seal plan 54 for two pumps (one tag)?Anonymous AttendeeYes that would be the idea. So For example – say you have 4 pumps, between bearings, and with dual pressurized seals.
Then you would have 8 seals, 8 seal systems, 8 Plan 53 reservoirs
Alternatively you have one Plan 54 system supplying all 8 seals
22
16Thank you for the lovely presentstion and slideshowPhilip NowakMy pleasure. Thank you for attending.
23
17Different between fixed and floating alarm strategy in plan 53B?Krishna BSorry I don't understand the question
24
18What surfces material of mechanical seal do you recomend for reclaimed water in tailing of mine?ELMER MAMANIYou need to send the process data sheet to both the pump and mechanical seal suppliers so they can evaluate all the conditions and make a recommendation. I think there are probably a lot of aggressive solids in the fluid which would suggest a dual pressurised seal with Plan 53. But a full review of the situation is needed before a proper recommendation can be made.
25
19Let's say we have a situation where 4 seal vendors John crane, Eagleburmann, Sealmatic, Flowserve and all 4 are suggesting different seal plans given that all pumping fluid data's and operating duty point.
how to mitigate these, have you came accross such situations?
Bhumit Raithatha There will often be differences of opinion between engineers. Some pumping applications can be suitably handled by a single seal with either a throttle bushing, or with a dry running gas backup seal; or by a Dual unpressurised seal or by a dual pressurised seal. You as a professional engineer need to get to the bottom of the matter and decide which is the best solution for you. You need to question the seal vendors as to why they made one particular recommendation rather than another.
26
20please share opinion on my question asked,

and please share the presentation on raithathabhumit@gmail.com
Bhumit Raithatha Course materials will be issued in a few days by our marketing department.

21terminology= barrier for pressurized vessels, buffer for non-pressurized (atmospheric)Pedro ViñaThank you for the clarification! I have learned something!
28
22Very informative presentation! Love the Firewater Pump Red tie and vest combo!Anonymous Attendee:)
29
23Wonderful explainaiton, sir! great tie as usual.
When will we be able to receive the previous his and the previous presentation for magnetic pumps?
Anonymous AttendeeThey will be issued in a few days.
30
24Different between static sealing pressure rating and dynamic sealing pressure rating?Krishna BSeals have a dynamic sealing rating which is an operating rating and is determined by the operating condition. They also have a static "withstand rating" that the non-operating pump can withstand.
31
25hello, once a manufacturer did not recomend the low drain in the piping in plan 52 (wich is indicated per api) have you seen that?Anonymous AttendeeI would always want to have a low point drain.
32
26Worth spending time, always good to deal with Rupherman team.Bhumit Raithatha Thank you!
33
27i like ur vestAnonymous AttendeeThank you!
34
28Thank you for your time & the great presentation! I am wondering how do we maintain equal pressure on both ends of the seal? How is this regulated?Kalindee VansadiaThis is in the design of the specific seal for the specific duty. They are designed such that the pressure acting on either side of the sealing faces is almost the same with a slight difference in order to obtain the gap between the faces. They are engineered seals.
35
29Sir, pls make presentation on pump bearing SelectionsAnonymous AttendeeGood suggestion. Thank you
36
30If common Plan 54 system is used for multiple pumps running together, the Pressure or level sensors are placed in source area only. How will you detuct which particular pump out of many has failed.? Can one common Plan 54 system used for different pump having different Box pressure.? If yes, to which box pressure it gives pressure.?Anonymous AttendeeA lot of thought needs to go into the design of the Plan 54 to ensure that each individual seal is monitored for leakage.
A Plan 54 can only be used on identical pumps running in parallel.
37
31Are Categories 2 or 3 API seals available for non API-610 pumps, (e.g. API 676)? Or have to be category 1 only?Nicolas BenedettiA full API682 seal will not fit the seal chamber of an ANSI or ISO pump. Seal vendors will be able to offer an "API 682-ish" or "kinda API682" seal for these applications. It will depend on the pump size, the seal chamber design and size and many other factors. Talk to the seal vendors and see what they can offer.
38
32Which is the best seal plan selection for hazardous/source services. Plan 52 or plan 53B?Krishna BIt depends. How hazardous? This is a matter for a Hazops study. Some engineers would be happy with a dual unpressurised seal with Plan 52. Others would prefer a dual pressurised seal with Plan 53.
39
33When we consider plan 54 for 4 pumps, how to derive the flow and pressure for circulating pump when 4 pumps running together are continuous, as well as intermittent operation,

seal vendor generally won't deal with hydraulics and process engineers need to do but they're usually unaware and ask to us that is to rotating equipment engineer
Bhumit Raithatha See Q 30

34Splendid presentation Simon. Have to leave. Keep up sharing your knowledge. See you - PedroPedro ViñaThank you and thank you for attending
41
35Any solution to avoid cascading effect of pump, seal failure if plan 54 is best solution for multiple pumps.Bhumit Raithatha There is no simple answer. A Plan 54 system is always going to be complex and need careful multi-discipline consideration.
You might come to the conclusion that having 8 individual Plan 53 systems (for 4 pumps) is better and safer and more reliable than having one Plan 54. Then you balance that with the Price advantage of a Plan 54 system for 4 pumps.
