New Program Design — for learning designers building from the ground up
4
5
6
Purpose
7
This template guides the design of a new program or course from first principles. It is a working document — intended to be revisited and revised as understanding of the learners, the context, and the evidence deepens. It is not a form to be completed once and filed.
8
9
Who it is for
10
Learning designers, instructional designers, and curriculum developers responsible for building a program before delivery. It assumes you will return to it across the design process, not complete it in one sitting.
11
12
How it relates to the other templates
13
Template 2 (Equity & Accessibility Analysis) uses evidence collected after delivery to evaluate whether the design served all learners well. Template 3 (Faculty Governance) extracts the key program-level information for review by a committee. This template feeds both of those. Design here first; evaluate and report from there.
14
15
The sequence
16
1 Needs Analysis → 2 Learning Outcomes → 3 Alignment Map → 4 Assessment Design → 5 Instructional Strategy → 6 Barrier Audit → 7 Review Log

Each tab is a phase. You do not need to complete them in order, but the sequence is logical — outcome decisions depend on needs analysis; assessment decisions depend on outcomes; barrier identification depends on all of the above.
