Calendar dates are tentative and subject to change.

The Virginia Department of Education has provided testing windows for state-required testing for the 2016-2017 school year. These are included in the list of projected testing dates below. We hope this information will assist you in planning other school events for the coming school year.

Required SOL Assessments for Elementary and Middle Schools

Reading: All students in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, although some English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students may qualify for a one-time exemption from testing.

Writing: All students in grade 8, although some ESOL students may qualify for a one-time exemption.

Mathematics: All students in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. Grade 5 students will take the Grade 6 Mathematics test if they are enrolled in an accelerated mathematics class. Middle school students enrolled in any credit-bearing high school class will take the associated end-of-course (EOC) SOL test.

History/Social Science: All students in grades 4 and 8, although some ESOL students may qualify for a one-time exemption from testing.

Science: All students in grades 5 and 8. ESOL students in grade 5 may NOT qualify for a one-time exemption.

Required SOL Assessments for High Schools

All students enrolled in credit-bearing course for which there is an associated End-of-Course SOL test are expected to take the accompanying test unless they have passed the same test in a previous testing administration.

Reading: Students enrolled in English 11 must take the EOC Reading test.

Writing: Students enrolled in English 10 must take the EOC Writing test.

Mathematics: Students enrolled in Algebra I, Geometry, and/or Algebra II must take the associated EOC Mathematics test(s).

History/Social Science: Students enrolled in World History I, World History II, US/VA History, and/or World Geography must take the associated EOC Social Studies test(s).

Science: Students enrolled in Earth Science, Biology, or Chemistry must take the associated EOC Science test(s).

Students who have earned a standard credit for any of the subjects listed above and who still need to verify the credit by passing the related SOL test may participate in any administration of the applicable EOC SOL test as needed. Grade 8 tests will be available as necessary during the fall administration for students attending special or alternative programs at any CCPS school.

Additional Standardized Assessments

In addition to SOL testing, specific groups of students will participate in the assessments below.

PALS Screenings: Fall and Spring Screenings for students in grades Pre-K through 3

DRA: Quarterly Assessments for students in grades K-5

CogAT: All students in grade 3

ACCESS for ELLs: All K-12 students who are identified as limited English proficient

WISE Financial Literacy Certification: Pre- and post-tests administered to students enrolled in Economics/Personal Finance

PSAT/NMSQT: To be determined which grade levels will test.

ACT Work Keys Reading for Information and Business Writing: Eligible students who have demonstrated need for an alternative reading or writing assessment

CTE Industry Credential Exams: Eligible students will be tested throughout the year in various courses and programs

The following matrix indicates the dates that should be reserved for testing in school calendars. Dates listed in the first column give the time frame that will impact the majority of students. Additional testing dates may be listed in the center column.
