64 | What if our town looked less like a marketplace and more like a community values driven place?
65 | How does love exist in capitalism?
66 | Neoliberalism - "market rationality has gotten inside all of us in such an intensive way and that we think with market rationality, cost benefit, efficiency, what's going to sell how we're looking cool. Coolness is the language of the market it seems to me. And so it's a dangrerous thing. So I went back and read some of those boring ass boys from Chicago who gave us neo-liberalism and it's even more worrisome because Milton Friedman the grandaddy of neoliberalism tells us right out that what the market wants more than anything is non-conformity. Let me repeat that one more time The thing the market wants mor ethan anything is non-conformity because then it can move along and turn it into innovation and sell it to us. So I am really concerned that transgression is not non-conformity. That it's not only non-conformity. When I teach and talk about transgression with students I fear that they hear "well I'm radical look what I look like. I got the look, I got this that and the other, I have the right books" and I think when we take bell Hooks work and realy work it through all the way then we see that transgression is something really much deeper, much more sustained in a daily practice of beauty. In a daily practice of working across difference that is not just about non-conformity."
